John Lennon, Harry Nilsson, Alice Cooper and Micky Dolenz were known as the ‘Hollywood Vampires’ in 1974. The unknown girl is not McKenzie Phillips. #hollywoodvampires #johnlennon #harrynillson #alicecooper #mickydolenz #therainbowbarandgrill #classicrockphotos
One day in the spring of 1966, I cut my classes in architecture at LA Trade Tech to take an audition for a new TV show called, “The Monkees”. The co-creator/producer of the show was Bob Rafelson. At first I mistook him for another actor there for the audition as he wasn’t much older than me. Needless-to-say, I got the part and it completely altered my life. Regrettably, Bob passed away last night after a long illness but I did get a chance to send him a message telling him how eternally grateful I was that he saw something in me. Rest in peace, my friend, and thank you from the bottom of my heart.

@micky_dolenz says he feels a responsibility to keep @themonkees alive.
Dolenz, the last living member of the iconic quartet, tells @anthonymasoncbs about the early days of touring and why the band has “been a blessing.”
Happy Birthday to Mr. Chip Douglas who turns 80 today!
Chip produced Headquarters among other albums and acclaimed hits like “Daydream Believer”.

MICKY & MASON — Two weeks from today, watch Anthony Mason profile Micky Dolenz on CBS Mornings, on the anniversary of the release of “Last Train To Clarksville.”
TIMES SQUARE CHRONICLES – 5-15-22/DOLENZ REIGNS SUPREME IN RED BANK — I attended Micky Dolenz’s show Thursday night at Red Bank’s Count Basie Center and was terrifically impressed at the presentation. We’ve caught Dolenz many times over the years, including several re-unions with the other Monkees-members, but as a solo act., Dolenz is just totally impressive.
With a crackerjack band, led by guitarist Wayne Avers, his 70-minute set was totally propulsive and enjoyable. Kudos also to drummer Rich Dart and bassist John Billings for their stellar work.
Dolenz has added The Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club” to his repertoire and it just cooks with an addictive power. Truth be told, Dolenz is a rocker first and foremost and with this number, you can tell exactly where his heart is at. “Gimme Some Lovin’” is also an impressive number.
His album last year Dolenz Sings Nesmith was a worldwide hit and appeared on several significant year-end lists. He said at the time that there could well be a follow-up album with songs by Neil Diamond, but I’d love to hear him perform a batch of rock-classics, starting with “Pepper.”
Several years back, an article in the Huffington Post compared his voice to a healthy mix of Freddie Mercury and Roy Orbison. Totally on the mark.
I attended one of the last shows Dolenz did with Michael Nesmith, at NYC’s Town Hall last year and even though there was a great video presentation, I did not get the full impact until tonight’s show. With much of it culled from Dolenz’s own personal collection, the behind-the-scenes moments, as well as material from other concerts, it just splendid.
Much has been made of Paul McCartney on his current tour singing “I’ve Got A Feeling” with a video of John Lennon, but Dolenz has been been doing this for quite sometime; singing with Davy Jones in particular, and the reaction from the sold-out crowd was terrifically impressive. From 8 to 80, his fan base is totally impressive.
His last number, “Daydream Believer” had Dolenz turning to the video screen as the song ended and saluting his Monkee-brothers. Class personified.
Dolenz will be appearing at NYC’s Palladium on June 3. Don’t miss it.
The Monterey Pop Festival took place 55 years ago this week. Here’s a snippet from an interview I did with TCM about my memories.
“ I was invited up by the Mamas and the Papas. I just remember it was, ‘Hey, we’re having a concert festival thing up in Monterey, can you make it?’ Originally, I said no, because we were filming [The Monkees]. Then the producers of the show actually decided to take a hiatus because they wanted to go. I had this cool outfit made; I got an Indian headdress from the wardrobe department because I’m part Indian. It was a last-minute thing. Peter and I flew up or drove up. So, I just started hanging out. And that’s where I saw Jimi Hendrix and suggested to our producers that he be the opening act for The Monkees. I had seen him in one of those Greenwich Village clubs as Jimmy James. He’d been described as ‘the guy who could play guitar with his teeth.’ When he came out onstage with Mitch (Mitchell) and Noel (Redding), I said, ‘That’s the guy who plays guitar with his teeth.’ And after that he was booked to be our opening act.”

FORGOTTEN HITS-6-10-22
I wanted to add to your request for comments. This comment is for your Magic Monkees Moments.
During my time as singer/bassist for The Rip Chords, I had the opportunity to be part of “Rockers On Broadway.” On the show was Micky Dolenz. As usual, he was excellent.
The Path Fund is a non-profit scholarship fund for theater arts and education. One of its main supporters and fundraisers is the “Rockers On Broadway” concert series.
Fast forward to 2022.
The organization has released a 2022, 12 track, live, fund raiser album.
One of the highlights of the project is a Micky Dolenz performance of “I’m a Believer.”
