#StopHatePropaganda Today, I am joining people around the world for a campaign against hate speech. Members of the Bahá’í Faith in Iran are being targeted by hate propaganda being spread by media owned by their own government. Please repost if you are moved to!!
@rainnwilson interviewed me on @bahaiblog podcast (link in bio) about my journey towards the Bahá’í Faith and an exploration of its teachings. We open with a real banger about fame & anxiety, touch on race & social media, and manage to keep things constructive, I hope. If you’re listening and find anything about the Bahá’í writings interesting, or have any questions, please use Bahai.org as a resource.

Two disclaimers: let me get ahead of you and acknowledge that 1) yes, I’m wearing a hat, and 2) beware that whenever I say “I’ll try not to be too tangential,” there is a massive tangent ahead.
I was about two years younger than most everyone else in my grade. Sometimes it was absolutely painful to appear younger, smaller and less of a “man” than my peers—and let’s be clear, as a 12 year old American boy in 1998-1999, the image of a “man” in my head was an impossible combo of two iconic duos: Will Smith & Jeff Goldblum in “Independence Day”, and Edward Norton & Brad Pitt in “Fight Club”. Needless to say, I always wondered when my six pack was gonna start showing and when I would meet a stripper I could marry. When the charming dynamic I saw in movies between these men and their female counterparts DID NOT develop between me and the girls I had crushes on, I would struggle with feelings of self-worth. This would continue until—hang on, my therapist is texting me rn

“I don’t drink but my dog is a lush.” Once again, my friend @zayforpaws takes my dog and dresses him up unasked, and I am not mad.
I am speaking solely to white people. Especially the loud ones—bc I hear you. And most of all, to myself.
We can’t *not* have internalized the racism of our society. Are there other white people we deem “the problem”? I think, the rest of the human family cannot endure our impatience with each other any longer. We have to listen, learn and teach each other.
This doesn’t mean social change amounts to emotional work, but it does start there when you wake up, and end there when you go to sleep. Everyday. This is part of what sustains constructive, lasting social change.

Sometimes It Snows In May
For those feeling conflicted about the process of voting, I encourage you to go. “Yes” to all of your concerns. It’s an imperfect process in a deeply flawed system, but it is a tool thru which our system can be improved and existing rights be protected. There are people who have sacrificed plenty—risked and given their lives—for these rights. It is important to vote. And let it be one step of many that you take—a first step towards action, rather than a Hail Mary flourish like “I did it!” If there are any feelings of inadequacy that arise as you do, search them for clues. What else do you want to do? How else can you contribute to the betterment of the world? Please do. We all need you.

Out now!! 🎥 “Mercy” by @domino_kirke_badgley // I’m still blown away by this achingly beautiful work of art coming at the close of #PregancyAndInfantLossAwareness month… She says it best:
::
“After the procedure, I reached for the woman’s hand sitting next to me in the recovery room. We both lost babies around the same time. She was surprised when she felt my touch, but she didn’t let go. I told her we would be ok. We would try again when we felt ready, as though she and I were going to try and conceive. This song was fueled by the hum of hormones still flooding my body, written while I was still bleeding. Written while I was still longing. I wrote this so I could attempt to push the evidence out of me. Evidence that couldn’t leave fast enough. This song is me going head to head with the science proving that our babies’ cells migrate into our bloodstream even if we do not carry to term. After many years of witnessing souls jump in and out of bodies, I wasn’t as prepared as I thought for this soul to linger the way it did. Her name was ‘Mercy.’ Thank you, Mercy, for showing me how to stay put and wait for the gems.”
