Birthdays are also milestones to look back and dream into the future. A year ago around the same time, I went on a discovery to find the awesome nuances of handmade and how it impacts lives and society. Delving deep into mindful consumption and conscious living, the past year has been one where I found myself, leading to the beginning of many journies.
I was born and raised in a small town near Palakkad. The tranquil life there, the simple childhood, untouched by the maddening urbanisation elsewhere always made me inquisitive and yearn to know and learn more.
I went back this past week to revisit one of my childhood memories…the weaving clusters around the region I grew up and saw each morning on my way to school – the street warping had to be moved for my school bus to pass by!
Peruvemba Handloom Village was reintroduced to me in a new context and meaning by Save The Loom @savetheloom_org . I have been fortunate to be with them this entire year discovering the amazing richness of our handmade heritage and the work its doing to bring pride and attention in telling stories for the future.
I went around meeting many weavers at their homes and see them work on their traditional pitlooms that they hold so dear , yet keep their children away from. I met the young women who underwent training last year and saw sparkling hope in their eyes to bring new life to a declining craft. The future is in the beauty of handmade. We just need to celebrate and value it more. Another birthday and time for me to reflect within.

Some evenings are beautiful than the rest, they are special for the occasion it celebrates. To be part of the official festive celebrations at the Kalyan family residence in Thrissur was one such, amongst the august gathering that included @srbachchan sir, @perumbavurjayaram sir, @actorvijaysethupathi @tovinothomas @neeraj_madhav @reba_john
The warmth, love and attention of all family members of #kalyan surely tends to make it a memorable experience for a long long time. This sure will be one of my cherished ocassions.
Best wishes of the season to all. @kalyanjewellers_official

Love doesn’t need anyone else. It finds its love from nothing – from absolute nothing. … And it colours my world with uncanny shades of loneliness. Once I find the colours, it moves me. It lifts me. Visit www.storiesbytijojohn.com for

I maintain a little note book to collect my thoughts and desires how I envision my life, my career, my passion and feelings. It also helps me stay focused to attain results in whatever I am doing. Each day is a learning. Each moment leaves us with a memory. Like an avid collector, I gather many such moments and memories to cherish forever. And wearing these exquisitely handcrafted artisanal masterpieces by couturier Rahul Mishra makes me feel special and blessed!

“I am seeking. I am striving. I am in it with all my heart.” –Vincent van Gogh
The joy within when the heart awakens to the splendid beauty of life. The joy within when you wish to celebrate each moment and every accomplishment. The joy within when your little world of dreams comes true.
I experienced same joy within when I wore the exquisitely handcrafted ensemble by @rahulmishra_7 . The minutest detailing, the finest thread work, the intense form of story telling on textile, the synergy of a craftsmans art and a creators vision to weave narratives that is the most beautiful expression of human abilities. All this sheer artistry embraces me with great warmth and I feel blessed.
