From @nowthisnews: Planting thousands of trees in a day?!
23-year-old @antoine_moses plants thousands of trees a day — here’s how he grew his hobby into a world record

The Chilean administration, @tompkins_conservation, @FundacionMelimoyu, and Centro Balleza Azul are protecting wildland with the new Tic Toc-Corcovado Gulf Marine Park. The recently established Patagonian park will protect over 250,000 acres of habitat critical to marine biodiversity, including Blue Whale feeding and breeding areas where at least 10% of the world’s Blue Whale population lives.
Although Chilean fjords are known globally as hotspots for biodiversity, less than 1% are strictly protected. @tompkins_conservation is working to conserve these critical and fragile ecosystems, aiming to increase protected areas of Patagonia’s coastal and shelf marine ecosystems to 10%.

The Jaguar population in Argentina’s Iberá Park has grown to 12 individuals with the recent birth of two more cubs, thanks to the amazing work of @Rewild’s close partner @rewilding_argentina. Of the 12, four are wild-born cubs and eight are reintroduced adults.
Using the location points sent by the mother Jaguar’s GPS collar, biologists were able to note her movements and discovered that she had not moved much for several weeks – indicating that she had probably given birth. They were able to confirm this using camera traps that captured videos of her together with two healthy cubs.
These Jaguar cubs spur hope in Rewilding Argentina’s continued work to reverse the disappearance of locally extinct species and the #rewilding of #Iberá Park.

Since @POTUS @JoeBiden took office, @theDemocrats have made significant strides in legislation on many fronts, including a great impact on #ClimateChange. Please watch and share this important message detailing the party’s success. #linkinbio
This month the government of the Republic of Congo, with the support of @thewcs, @rewild and others, announced that the country’s first three marine protected areas (MPAs) have been created. The MPAs cover 1,544 square miles (4,000 square kilometers) and will include important nesting grounds for Leatherback Turtles, and migratory routes and breeding habitat for Atlantic Humpback Whales. The areas are also home to 40 species of sharks and rays—including Whale Sharks, the biggest fish in the ocean.
Local fishers were consulted in creating the MPAs, and the newly protected areas include community fishing zones to ensure that the MPAs benefit and contribute to the food security of local communities. The three areas include some of the most productive coastal and offshore fisheries in the world.

Young people in Portugal are fighting against powerful European governments to protect their homelands and livelihoods that have been destroyed by extreme weather conditions, like the above pictured Pedrógão Grande that was ravaged by wildfires in 2017. These cases are being heard by the court of human rights.
In their climate litigation, financed by crowdfunding, these young activists argue that the climate crisis interferes with their right to life, respect, and even their right not to be discriminated against. The goal is to legally bind governments to increase emissions cuts locally and internationally. California’s San Gabriel Mountains area has been battered with climate-driven heat waves, drought, wildfires, and flooding for more than two decades. The rapidly changing climate has affected the wildlife who have called the region home for years, including a rare yellow-legged frog whose inhabitation of the mountains has been in danger since the streams across the region have dried up.
Six biologists recently made the trek to the San Gabriel Mountains in order to return these rare yellow-legged frogs back to their home, doubling the number of wild yellow-legged frogs.

Just four years after researchers identified the Mato Grosso Titi Monkey as its own species, the small monkey has been named one of the 25 most endangered primates in the world. The new report, ‘Primates in Peril 2022-2023,’ launched this week in Mato Grosso, Brazil at the 19th Congress of the Brazilian Society of Primatology. The Mato Grosso Titi Monkey is one of four primate species on the list from Brazil, which is home to more primate species than any other country in the world.
The biggest threat to the Brazilian Amazon is deforestation by the cattle industry, both for pastures and feed crops (primarily soybeans), and the Mato Grosso Titi Monkey lives within the largest area of deforestation. Conservationists are now starting to look at how best to mitigate the threats to the Mato Grosso Titi Monkey and develop a plan for its protection, including law enforcement at Juruena National Park, the largest protected area for the species.
The biennial ‘Primates in Peril’ report is a collaborative effort of the IUCN SSC Primate Specialist Group, the International Primatological Society and @Rewild.

In the mid 2000s, illegal cattle ranches, many with links to narcotrafficking, threatened to completely decimate Guatemala’s Maya Biosphere Reserve and its communities. During the past decade, the government of Guatemala and partners risked life and limb to expel the illegal ranchers and take the forest back. Recently, in a historic moment, the government gave out 30-year contracts permitting local communities to manage and restore these forests, creating jobs while protecting nature.
Congratulations to the Guatemalan government and the community organizations for protecting Guatemala’s forests for all of humanity.

For the first time in nearly 200 years, ospreys have recently produced two chicks in England. This breeding highlights the recovery the species is seeing after the bird was persecuted off the shores of England between 1840 and 1916, as they were thought to harm salmon and trout stocks.
The @leiceswildlife brought the first birds to the island in almost 200 years and, with their supervision, there are now 26 adults across Rutland who have raised 200 chicks to independence. Amazing work done by this organization.

From @unitednations: Throwback to August 2017 when Grand Chief Wilton Littlechild, a Cree Chief from #Canada, opened an #IndigenousDay event at #UnitedNations Headquarters in #NYC.
Indigenous peoples are the keepers of unique traditions and knowledge. There are more than 476 million indigenous people living in 90 countries, representing 5,000 different cultures & speaking the majority of the world’s 7,000 languages.
Yet, they continue to face overwhelming marginalization, discrimination and exclusion.
Tuesday’s International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples is an opportunity to celebrate the incredible diversity of the world’s indigenous cultures & stand up for their rights to be protected everywhere.

On Sept. 14, @patagonia made history by announcing a groundbreaking move to new ownership, nearly 50 years after founder Yvon Chouinard began his experiment in responsible business. The Chouinard family has transferred all ownership to two new entities: Patagonia Purpose Trust and the Holdfast Collective.
Further, every dollar that does not go directly back into the company will be distributed as dividends to protect the planet. This will make Patagonia one of the top environmental funders on the planet.
Congratulations to Patagonia for making a difference in climate change.

In 2020, young people demanded action on climate: clean air, clean water, clean energy, lower emissions, and lower energy costs. The Inflation Reduction Act delivered. It’s up to us to keep up the fight in 2022 and beyond. Check your voter registration status and commit to vote for your future at http://votefuture.org.
Congress just took the biggest #ClimateAction in U.S. history, passing the Inflation Reduction Act. It will help reduce emissions by 40% from 2005 levels, averting the worst impacts of the climate crisis while investing in communities and creating clean energy jobs.
This bill will not solve the climate crisis, but it is a major step forward as we continue the important work ahead of us. We must reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and advance justice in order to address the environmental inequities that communities of color and low-income communities continue to face.
Keep up with @NRDC_Action’s continuous push on elected officials to pass laws that meet community and climate needs.
This past Sunday, the @senatedems passed their $750 billion health care, tax, and climate bill – the Inflation Reduction Act. If it passes through the House this Friday, the bill will put billions of dollars towards clean energy, which could reduce carbon emissions by roughly 40% by 2030.
This is the largest climate investment in US history and a major step forward in securing the country’s commitment to effective #ClimateAction.
…
Repost from @nrdc_org: The Senate just passed a landmark climate bill—it’ll reduce dangerous emissions by 40% and create jobs in every corner of the country.
Next up, the House must pass the bill.
