On March 21, the spring equinox, the DSCOVR satellite took images every ~15 minutes, resulting in this beautiful view of a day in the life of our planet. But what you can’t see is that with every full rotation of our Earth – every 24 hours – we spew 162 million tons of human-caused greenhouse gas pollution into our atmosphere as if it were an open sewer. The consequences of our actions are apparent in the form of more frequent and severe droughts, wildfires, heatwaves, floods, and extreme weather. While this remains true on this #EarthDay, we must commit ourselves to building a better future for our planet and each other. Scientists and communities on the frontlines of the #climatecrisis continue to warn us. We cannot continue to ignore them. @NOAA @NASA #ClimateChange #ClimateAction #EarthDay2022
Today, the United States said yes to climate action, demonstrating long-term climate leadership that the world can depend on.  It took longer to reach this moment than many hoped or expected, but with the dedication of climate advocates in communities across the country, in the halls of the House and Senate, and in the White House, we have overcome one of our most persistent hurdles.  The same scientists and advocates whose perseverance led to today’s historic vote will be the first to tell you that there is much more work left to do. Indeed, as soon as it is signed into law, we must move deliberately to ensure that this legislation is not only fully implemented, but improved upon. We must continue to fight for stronger measures to reduce emissions, and we must push back against the expansion of fossil fuel infrastructure that is responsible for generations of environmental injustice across the country.  This is progress that underscores the importance of electing leaders who champion climate science instead of denying it. Let us embrace this moment as a tipping point for climate action – in America and around the world. #ClimateAction #InflationReductionAct #ClimateReality
It is long past time to pass common-sense gun legislation. My full statement on the shooting at Robb Elementary School: Nearly 10 years ago, 20 children were slaughtered in their classrooms in Newtown, CT. And nearly 10 years later, it’s happened again in Uvalde, TX. As a parent and a grandparent, I can’t imagine the pain and horrific loss that the families of Uvalde are feeling today as they wake up with an empty bed where their child should be. Once again, we are confronted with this uniquely American form of devastation triggered by yet another mass shooting. Once again, we will go through a painfully familiar cycle of grief and outrage. After 19 children are shot dead in their school, is enough, enough? After Black women and men are killed in a hate-fueled and racist attack on a grocery store in Buffalo, is enough, enough? How many children, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, and loved ones will be stolen from us before we take action? From Columbine to Uvalde, we have failed to keep our children safe because of the stranglehold the gun lobby has on our democracy. It’s time for those who have obstructed the common-sense measures that will keep dangerous weapons out of the hands of mass-murders to put the lives of their fellow Americans over their quest for campaign contributions. It is long past time to pass common-sense gun legislation.
At this pivotal point in our history, we face a crucial choice: embrace the solutions to the climate crisis or succumb to moral cowardice. My @ted conversation with @whitpennrod focuses on the steps we must take to ensure we meet this moment. You can find the link to watch in my bio.

Just arrived in Las Vegas where the @ClimateReality team is ready to welcome 500 new changemakers tomorrow for our 49th Leadership Corps training! We have much to learn from the scientists, activists, & experts who are joining us. Stay tuned for updates this weekend!
I am so energized after spending three days with climate advocates from across the Southwest at Climate Reality’s 49th Leadership Corps training! It was an incredibly special weekend filled with education, storytelling & most importantly: hope. I was inspired by Climate Reality Leaders Shawn Harpen, Li-Ya Mar, Lily Morse, & Malika Yates, who shared specific pieces of advice on how to drive action. Among them: dive right in and be sure to listen to and understand the perspectives of your audiences. Drs. Elena Krieger & Karletta Chief joined us to answer Climate Reality leaders’ questions about the climate crisis & its solutions. Scientists like these brilliant women are illuminating our fight against the crisis through their research & teachings. Thank you both! It was also my honor to present Sybil Azur with Climate Reality’s Alfredo Sirkis Green Ring Award. Her work in rallying for a clean energy transition in the LA Unified Schools is an inspiration to us all! I was so grateful for our special guests Representative Susie Lee, Representative Dina Titus, Jonathan Scott, Cassie Snow, IN-Q, Commissioner Justin Jones, Tim Guinee, and Calum Worthy. And of course, the people who made this training possible: our entire Climate Reality team! The biggest highlight of these trainings for me is always meeting all of you! I truly believe that this generation of climate activists can & WILL build a more just & sustainable future for our planet. Thank you for making this weekend possible.

New analysis by Climate TRACE coalition member TransitionZero shows that the cost of switching from coal power to renewables has dropped 99% since 2010, making natural gas a “bridge fuel” to nowhere.
