Permit me just a bit of nostalgia since social media wasn’t around when I was a young man. These newspaper clippings are from The Detroit News (“Boy’s plea against racism wins award”) The Michigan Chronicle (citing me as a “Boy Wonder”12-year-old champion orator who “drew a standing ovation from the audience”) and another local paper (which cited the requirements for the speech contest pictured here as “a 4 to 5 minute deliverance completely memorized”). When folk ask me how I endure the racial hatred (calling me racist epithets while tagging me a racist and threatening my life) vicious lies and slander (making baseless and false claims of me as a predator in careless media and on social media by those who claim to abide by justice and by proof and not unfounded hearsay or untrue allegation) and unprincipled professional derision (including by some whose work I nevertheless read and support), I remind them that I’ve been speaking, writing, advocating, protesting, marching, and amplifying the needs and interests of the oppressed for more than 50 years! I will continue to bear witness and love justice as long as there is breath in my body. Love y’all!🙏🏽❤️
3 of my babies. 😍

@marcia_l_dyson • The great thing about being a team member for @unitedjusticecoalition is that members can bring to light situations where policing failed. The Anton Black story is such a case. After speaking to Anton‘s parents and his attorneys @marcia_l_dyson thought it was very important to bring Anton family’s angst to the coalition. Please watch this horrific story tonight and know why social activism is at the heart of all I do. She credits another team member for going the extra mile with the story. • Two years before George Floyd’s murder, 19-year-old Anton Black also died under the weight of police officers as he cried out for his mother. In the tiny town of Greensboro, Maryland, Anton was a star athlete and a budding model who had recently been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. A 2018 encounter with Thomas Webster, an officer with a troubling past, changed everything…especially because town officials had been warned in advance not to hire Webster. Like George Floyd, Anton’s case galvanized a community seeking justice and touched many of the fault lines in the heated debate about policing in America. It’s the kind of incident that occurs all too often, but unlike George Floyd, seldom makes national news. On Friday August 5th on @datelinenbc at 10e/9c, a @lesterholtnbc exclusive details the results of our year-long investigation into the death of Anton Black.

The great #AunjanueEllis is brilliant in my premiere Why I Love Black Women podcast!
“Top dog, Underdog” is a play I saw on Broadway years ago that stills linger in my mind when talking about the friendship between Black men. That’s why I’m thrilled that it is coming back on stage this September. Read👇🏽from @marcia_l_dyson “If you’ve ever hoped to see Corey Hawkins and/or Yahya Abdul-Mateen II doing their thing up close and personal, you’ll soon have your chance. The two actors will star in the Broadway return of Topdog/Underdog this fall in a very limited, 16-week run. The Pulitzer winning drama by Suzan-Lori Parks first hit the stages of off-Broadway in 2001. The following year, it found its home at Broadway’s Ambassador Theater where it ran for four months. The original production was also a star-studded event that featured Don Cheadle (who would later step down and be replaced by Mos Def) and Jeffrey Wright. The dark comedy centers around two brothers named Lincoln (Hawkins) and Booth (Abdul-Mateen II) who are forced to live together after Lincoln is tossed out by his wife. The duo struggles to make ends meet with their degrading jobs, leading each one towards getting back into the high-risk-high-reward street game, three-card monte. Throughout the production, each brother must face-down his inner demons and come to terms with his life as it stands in the present. David Stone, LaChanze, Rashad V. Chambers, Marc Platt, Debra Martin Chase, and the Shubert Organization are the producers.” The limited theatrical event will land on stage at the John Golden Theatre beginning on September 27.” Britta DeVore Get your tickets now!!!!
Enjoy Sunday Service Repost from @marcia_l_dyson • “Come on baby (world citizens) light my (our) fire” of love and not destruction. “Someday, after mastering the winds, the waves, the tides and gravity, we shall harness for God the energies of love, and then, for a second time in the history of the world, we will have discovered fire.” Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
