45 Days Until Roevember 8th
44 days from today, the tens of millions of us who have had enough, are going to descend upon the polls en masse — a literal overwhelming, unprecedented tsunami of voters — and nonviolently, legally, and without mercy remove every last stinking traitor to our Democracy. And for the next 44 days I’m going to give you the proof of my belief that this is actually going to happen! Each day on my Substack I’ll give you one quick, solid, shareable reason how and why the anti-Democratic forces are going to go down in a bonfire of defeat. The pundits and the Trumpsters are on a daily rampage to convince you we are going to lose the House, that we’ll still be stuck with a gridlocked Senate. And that Biden is a loser. They are lying to you. And they know exactly what they are doing. They are convinced, due to our past behavior, that we are frightened of the Right, that we believe we are going to lose — and that we are filled with pessimism, cynicism and the justified doubts that the often-lame Democrats are experts at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Mike’s Midterm Tsunami Truth #13: Women. That’s it. There are 6 million more women in the US than men. Talk about outnumbered! There are more women who vote than men — 63% of eligible women vote. Only 59% of eligible men vote. And when women vote, 56% of them vote for the Democrat over the 38% that vote Republican. Can these Republican men at least do the math? So while I’m presenting all of these 44 reasons (one each day) as to why we are going to win in November (and how we’re going to do that), let’s not forget that there is one, overwhelming, laser-focused, locked-and-loaded reason that the Republicans are already doomed, defeated and demolished. They must know it. That they have cooked their own geese. And that reason is women. More than any other reason, women, the majority gender, one month from today, will lead the crushing blow of defeat to the Republican politicians committed to the destruction of our Democracy. The right wing Supreme Court issued a religious edict on June 24th reminding women they are second-class citizens. They clearly didn’t understand that the vast majority of American women, regardless of political affiliation, DO NOT want the government in their bedrooms and they certainly are NEVER going to cede control over their reproductive organs to a bunch of Mitch McConnells. That is game over, and that is why in the last few months millions more women than men have registered to vote. I wonder if these Justices ever talk with or listen to women? Do they know any women? Because if they did, they never would have gotten rid of Roe. I have never witnessed such stupidity on such a massive scale. Nor have I ever seen a backlash so intense, so together and so widespread. These Republicans have committed mass political suicide. Wow. Just wow. Women. That’s it. The Mother of all Steamrollers. Unstoppable. Indefatigable. Unaccepting of anything but complete and total surrender. Over and out. One month from today.
There’s nothing more satisfying than when an act of intended cruelty against those who are most vulnerable, backfires — especially those enacted for no other reason than political grandstanding for bigots & idiots. I feel a thank you note is in order… Dear Governors DeSantis and Abbott, First off, thank you for liberating thousands of newly arrived human beings from the hellhole the rest of America knows as “Texas.” I’m sure most of them, when they fled the terror and poverty of their own countries to come to the land of the free in Texas, had no idea they were going to a new place of terror, a place led by men devoid of conscience, a state run by bigots and idiots too stupid to know how to a) build a modern energy grid, and b) figure out how to hook that grid up to the rest of the country’s grid so they wouldn’t freeze to death in the winter. These new immigrants also probably hadn’t heard that, long before the Supreme Court’s ruling in June, Texas politicians had already legalized the removal of human rights from women and in doing so, made them second-class citizens. And I’m certain they had no clue just how unsafe their children would be in a state that hands out assault weapons like candy and then, as their own 10-year-olds are being slaughtered with said guns, 400 “law enforcement” officers show up and are too chicken-shit to risk their own lives to save them. In Texas, why on earth would you put yourself at risk to save a child?!! Esteemed Governors, you’ve done a great service to these new arrivals by getting them out of Texas. Mike’s Midterm Tsunami Truth #9: Why will we win? Because the American people hate fascism. The vast majority of Americans have always opposed any form of fascism, even though at times tens of millions of us have endorsed the genocide of our native peoples, the enslavement, raping and lynching of humans kidnapped from Africa, the prohibition of Chinese immigrants, the over 100 illegal invasions of other countries, the closed doors to victims of the Holocaust, the passage of laws legalizing white supremacy, the prohibiting of marrying or having sex with someone of your own gender and the government legalizing the second-class citizenship of all women, to name but a few. Yet, in spite of all this, the vast majority of Americans are repulsed by fascism. And that is why those of the party that supports fascism will be rebuked and go down in a crushing defeat on November 8th. 147 Republicans in Congress participated in a treasonous act on the night of 1/6/21 by voting in support of the insurrectionists’ demands earlier that day to illegally overturn the legitimate and already-certified results of the 2020 election. That was an act of fascism. Most Americans in 2022 are not fascists. We might be occasionally stupid, often ill-informed and woefully unaware we are being hoodwinked by capitalists, clerics and the NFL’s concussion “protocols,” but we are, most of us, nonetheless good-hearted people of conscience who believe everyone deserves a fair shake and a seat at the table. We love Democracy, even if we’ve yet to attain it. We’d like the “American Dream” to become the American Reality for all who wish to be here. We want all those around the world to have freedom, economic equality and a belief that we are all part of the same family and the same planet on which we can live and breathe and play Wordle. Mike’s Midterm Tsunami Truth #5: Trump is not the Big Bad Wolf. But he is very afraid of You. There is one recurring comment I keep receiving from many of you and it goes like this: “But Mike — there are tens of millions who still back Trump! He won before and he can win again! Look at his rallies! Thank you for your optimism and cheering us on, but I can’t get over my fear that he always seems to pull off the impossible! And he will in November because our side doesn’t show up to vote!!” Part of any bully’s repertoire is to create the illusion that he has all the strength and you have none. He doesn’t have the wherewithal — or the strength — to fight you and everyone else. So by trying to appear like the Big Bad Wolf, he hopes that your fear of him will get you to back down. Mike’s Midterm Tsunami Truth #11: 147 Reasons We Will Win on November 8th Here they are. These are the 147 United States Senators and Members of the U.S. House of Representatives — every single one a member of the soon-to-be-defunct Republican Party — who, just hours after the Capitol Police and National Guard put down a right wing insurrection and attempted coup on January 6th of last year, voted to give the traitorous mob what it demanded: The illegal overturning of the 2020 presidential election by refusing to accept and certify that the vast majority of Americans had cast their ballots — by seven million votes — to elect Joseph R. Biden as the 46th President of the United States. Their own act of Congressional insurrection failed in both Houses of Congress in the late evening hours of January 6th. The 147 swore they would prevent Biden from entering the White House. And they went down to bitter defeat. Their attempt to overturn Arizona’s results was struck down 93 to 6 in the Senate, and 303 to 121 in the House. And their attempt to overturn Pennsylvania’s results was struck down 92 to 7 in the Senate, and 282 to 138 in the House. The republic was spared, barely. The 147 I’ve listed below sought to bring an end to our Democracy that night. Is there anything more sacred in a Democracy than the will of the people at the ballot box? To take that away means Democracy is over. That’s what the 147 below did 21 months ago, and for that attempt at treason, every single last one of them should be removed on November 8th. Mike’s Midterm Tsunami Truth #7: The Democratic Party leaders don’t want me telling you there’s good news ahead. They’re worried if I convince you we’re going to win, that you won’t show up to vote ‘cause you’ll think your vote won’t be needed. They think you need to be scared into voting, so they tell you constantly we’re going to lose, then flood your inbox with desperate appeals to send them money (“Just 10 more dollars by midnight tonight! Act now!!”). I think they’re wrong. And as per usual, I think they are underestimating you. I think trying to instill fear is paralyzing. I subscribe to the wisdom of Sun Tzu, “Know thy enemy, know thyself.” Knowledge is power. Power brings confidence. Confidence is mobilizing. Mike’s Midterm Tsunami Truth 10: Meet Blake Masters, Whackadoodle No. 9 In 34 days from today, on Wednesday November 9th, I believe we will wake up that morning with smiles on our faces. Because tens of millions of us will have descended upon the polls the day before and, in a poignantly Democratic move, saved our Democracy. One of the many reasons we stand poised to crush the movement which seeks to destroy our Democracy is that there are millions more of us who are registered to vote than there are of them. So, we’re all set, right? Well, not so fast… Unlike most democracies, we do not have one standard voter registration system for the whole country. 50 different states have 50 different sets of rules.
