Accidentally clicked remove from grid on my last post, so took it as a sign to grab more of my favourite moments from last night to post up. These last couple shows felt like a throwback to when we first starting doing our shows at the Lady Andal auditorium in Chennai. More intimate, with audiences so much closer to us, in a way felt like a re-connection to the origins. Some mornings I wake up and I see clouds, they’re beautiful and ambiguous. They drift slowly
Some mornings I wake up and see nothing at all, I stare into an empty blue that feels sterile
Some mornings, I walk outside and breathe in cold air. First thing, before looking at my phone or at myself in the mirror
I breathe in cold air and feel the infinite flow to all parts of my body
Some mornings, I find myself falling into myself, caving in to every last thought that occurs. And they don’t occur one at a time, they occur all at once. Cacophony

The light shines the same way at the start of every day.
The sun, it slowly rises above the ridge that sits steadfast right across from my backyard
The chip on my shoulder has shapeshifted over the years, but remains just as heavy, just as steadfast as ever
Explorations in Raga Khamas//
Was improvising in Raga Khamas against a bed of D# on the piano last night. Ebbed and flowed with the raga, playing with little melodic motifs, starting from a place of familiarity and seeing where it led. Around the 4:20 mark, I started to happen upon what felt like maybe a new perspective within the raga, followed that North Star which led to a song idea in a 7 count.
Next stage in this evolution will be being able to improvise the harmony/chords in real time with the melodic vocal improv. A daily pursuit

It’s pretty fascinating how different spaces inspire different kinds of ideas. What lives beyond nostalgia?
I especially love playing this piano whenever I come to back to the bay. It’s been in this house since I was like 9 or 10 I think. I started messing around with a melody today and as I continued I fell into a hook I wrote my first year at Berklee in 2008/09. The song was called California Air and I wrote it when I was hellllllla homesick. As I stumbled into that hook today, it felt really warm.
(My laughing in the middle is when I say this ad lib lyric “Northern California to be exact” that I’m surprised I remembered)
