This year I celebrate 30 years in show business.
Remember… wherever you start doesn’t have to be where you end…. Never despise small beginnings.
It takes a while to build a dream.

I wrote this to a friend of mine who had lost someone they loved very much. Today I want to make it public in hopes that it may help someone who may be grieving. I’ve been there and I know it well. Recently so many people that I know have died or are dying and what I learned is the below
Hey …..
I just want you to know that you may hear a lot of cliches from people, things like “you loved them but God loved them best” or “they are with the Lord now” and people really do mean well when they say these things, however the truth of the matter is, nothing can comfort you, one moment you will be fine and the next you’ll be breaking down.
Having lost my mother whom I was very close to, the best advice I can give you is to let grief come when it comes. It can’t be scheduled.
You can’t “work” through it, it will just wait for you to finish the job. You can’t sleep through it, it will be waiting for you by the bedside when you awake in the morning. Believe me I tried…
Unfortunately grief is a living thing that visits at will.
The only thing I can offer you is a prayer, and my prayer for you is that it comes in waves. Gentle ones that give you enough grace In between them so that you can function.
And lastly I’ll say this to you my dear friend, be around people you trust because I promise you it’s hard to trust yourself when grief is wrapped around you like a old familiar robe.
Sending you love and true prayers.
Tyler.

When Jazzman met @iamcardib !! A Jazzman’s Blues out now on @netflix
I so enjoyed moderating this conversation with former First Lady @michelleobama about her new book #TheLightWeCarry
Thank you for reminding us all that we have a light and we should use it to make each other better. One of my favorite quotes from the book:
Keep the poison out and the power in.

I got a chance to sit down for a Q&A with this humble genius, Ryan Coogler, his brilliance is on display once again with the new @blackpanther . I’m wishing him more success than he and his beautiful wife and kids can handle.
