It breaks my heart to see the recent attacks on the Asian community, and the devastating toll the pandemic has had on Chinatown businesses. I made Bao to highlight the vibrant areas of Chinatown I grew up visiting: the bakeries, the grocery stores, and of course the people. Even though my family was from a completely different part of China, we still found comfort and familiarity (and amazing food) in Chinatown when we first immigrated to Canada. So please support your local Asian businesses, demand justice for the victims of these terrible attacks, and donate what you can to the various charities that are helping Asian communities (I’ve been making donations to asianhealthservices.org an organization who help local Oakland Chinatown residents with healthcare, covid testing, and advocacy). #stopasianhate
