Mr. Byers treated me to a day I will never forget: High Tea at #TheBaccaratHotel (ya’ll already know that’s my favorite hobby ☕️), watching @intothewoodsbroadway (so fun!) and ending our evening at @gramercytavern – the food was EXQUISITE, ya’ll. @traibyers, you are the best husband I could have ever asked for. The way you plunge body-deep into loving me constantly, daily and deeply, will always touch my soul. I cannot thank God enough for blessing me with the miracle of you. You have my whole heart. I love you, King. ❤️
2.) Remember those double chocolate cakes? That was alllllll hubby. 😭 He trekked all the way to Midtown for this one. My favorite cake = soft fluffy chocolate cake and when I tell you that @amysbread came through?! MAN. Baby, you killed this one!! 🎂
3.) Guys – @thejerriejohnson had me crying at least four times that day. Her thoughtfulness throughout the entire day, but especially in putting together this deeply touching video, had me floored. I was, quite literally, beside myself. Thank you to every single person who contributed and Jer-Bear, you are such a gift to this world. I cannot thank you enough for ALL of your selfless efforts in making this birthday an unforgettable one. You didn’t need to do any of it, but here you are, doing what you do – pouring your light and love over folks – like pancake syrup. You are a blessing. Lord knows I’m far from perfect. Every day I look to evolve, shift, learn from my very human mistakes and try again.
Not beating myself up for falling short is still a constant battle sometimes. Maybe it is for you, too. But when we can place the past behind us, knowing that we always try our best (even when it feels like we don’t), the sooner we get to try again.
Today, we breathe fresh air. It’s a new day. We get to make more informed decisions and put into play what we’re learning. Even if it’s clunky and awkward and imperfect (it always is, isn’t it?).
A soft thought: you’re not defined by your mistakes. Or your past. Or the amount of times you fall. What you do right now, today, that is where your definition begins.
In this moment, my definition says: I’m brave enough to grow, to change, to try again.
