Poornitha Instagram - I often wonder about how the word "Mother" means different things to different people. 'Mother' is a very very complex word for me, one filled with a plethora of emotions. Ofcourse everyone will say their mom is the best but my mom was truly the best in the entire world :) I had an amazing, strong, powerful and an absolutely beautiful soul for a mom who would move mountains for me. As I sit on my couch with my little Navya sleeping in my arms, all I can think of when I see her innocent and super cute face, is whether i would be a perfect mother to her. The kind of perfect that my mother was :) I'd consider Navya very very lucky if I was even just 10% of what my mother was to me. The person I still look up to, not just for mommy related things, but most importantly how to be a good human. From changing a zillion diapers a day to trying to put her to sleep, to handling her mood swings, to entertaining her, to crying in the bathroom because you feel you can't do this anymore.. being a mom is not easy. Navya was a planned baby and despite that, I feel like I wasn't ready to be a good mom by the time she arrived. Somehow after all that, when my cutie wakes up in the morning, flashes me her toothless smile, that's all the energy I need to get up and be the best mom I can be for my little one :) Happiest 4th month on planet Earth to my little baby girl Navya :) I know her grandma is looking down and enjoying her grow up every single day. #kalyaniunfiltered #beingamom #vsco #vscocam
Poornitha Instagram - As a new mom, I've been receiving a lot of things from people - gifts for me, gifts for the little one, being showered with a lot of love from my loved ones, strangers on the street telling me how cute my baby is everytime we go for a walk.. the thing I've received the most though is unsolicited advice 😁 So many pointers, what to do, what not to do.. from so many people! Some whom I know, many whom I have never met. Don't get me wrong. I understand that all this comes from a place of good intention, but each baby is different and when you become a mother, something I'm experiencing is that you develop this intuition to handle your baby, to care for your little one. Considering you spend every moment with your baby, you know how to soothe them, you learn slowly as to what troubles them, you start knowing their every gesture and with the slightest expression you'll know what they need. Even in all of this, there is this constant self doubt if you're ever going to be a good enough mother for your little one. All this unsolicited advice makes that situation worse! Atleast for me.. new mothers need help. No doubt about it but I think the best thing that anyone who wants to help is wait around to be asked for help first.. It's not easy to be a mom, there are so many changes internally and externally and suddenly you have to take care of this little human who is completely dependent on you. So here's my advice (😁) to all those people who give unsolicited advice to new moms.. all mothers are trying to be the best versions of themselves for their baby, they're all trying to be the best mom in the world.. so stand by them, support them and tell them that they're doing a good job first :) small things like that go a long long way. It is truly amazing to see how Navya has completely changed me. My priorities. My desires. My life as a whole will never be the same. I'm the mother, I'm supposed to teach her things and mould her into a beautiful, smart human being but instead, these 6 months have been a training period for me.. actually I am still work in progress 😁 This tiny human that I made (ok fineee. Rohit helped too😜) is completely breaking my rigid ideologies. The way I thought life should be lived. My very core being. Everything is being pleasantly challenged. For instance, I am very punctual even if it’s a birthday party (oh well. I was) She taught me that it's really not worth hurrying and getting things done fast instead of enjoying and living every minute. Being present. Being flexible. To adjust and be ok with it. To go with the flow. She's taught me patience, whether it was trying to get her to eat or sleep (you mommies out there know what I am talking about right 🙄) She's taught me to prioritize. Right now, she is my priority. She needs me. She depends on me. She taught me what is actually important.. to live in the present. Live for what is in front of you. Live for small happy moments. Actually the only place where that's true is social media 😂 the only place where babies don't cry and mommies don't get tired and when there's no zillionth load of laundry to do. Ah! The social media world ;) if only that was the truth. This is one of million moods of Navya's you can see in a day. Babies are just as moody like adults. Surprise surprise!! Ofcourse their giggles are cuter but their giggly non fussy moods are just as rare as the Hailey's comet. Motherhood or just actually adulthood is far from perfect. We just have to do what works for us. Whatever keeps us sane. If that means “not perfect“ then so be it. Your way of dealing with things may sound crazy to some. So what? Being crazy needs guts. Being yourself needs strength. Being you needs confidence. Comparing our life to others. We see only one moment of someone's life and believe that’s their whole life.Nope. That is just one moment. That's all. Just like this picture of Navya and me. this is just one moment. I really do have to keep reminding myself that and I find peace in that. It's so easy to fall into a rut of thinking our life is not good enough. That we have to be doing so much more! And never being satisfied with anything.. But remember, moments pass. Days pass. The next one comes zooming in..And that moment will pass too..and not just the happy ones. If you're not having the best day, it's ok. Sometimes it's ok to have a tub of icecream for dinner and go to bed. Stop beating yourself up. Tomorrow will come. A new day. What started off as a normal day turned into the most horrific day of my life. I lived next door to my mother, and as per routine, was getting ready to go to the gym with her. Upon ringing her doorbell, she didn’t seem like her chirpy, active self. Something felt off, and she looked groggy. I asked her to get ready, gave her some lime juice, and went to get ready myself. I returned 20 mins later to pick her up. I rang the bell several times. By now, my worst fears were looming over me - something did not feel right. I managed to break the door open. The dogs were no longer barking and could not be seen. I ran inside, only to find my mother had hung herself and died by suicide. I was 23-years-old, and my life changed forever that day. My mother was my best friend, and I could not imagine a world without her in it. I felt my soul also die that day. My mother’s diary revealed that she had been sad for a long time. If only she had told any of us. Lost, and feeling hopeless, I too tried to take my own life. I tried to seek help - calling local helplines, but no one picked up. Poornitha Instagram - Being pregnant was truly the best and happiest phase of my life. I used to hear scary stories about the difficulty of being pregnant, constantly throwing up, mood swings, tiredness and just basic discomfort in life. I’m one of those blessed souls clearly who didn’t go through any of that I was in Malaysia for a show and just before our flight back to India, I just knew something was up. How my amazing husband and I searched every corner of that airport, hand-in-hand, and finally found a pharmacy to buy a test. Man.. Was I right!!! (like always :P). What a difference 2 tiny red lines on a stick can make to one’s life :) Rush of emotions, making fun of each other’s happy tears and just had a ball dancing around in our little corner of the Malaysian Airport The first 3 months were all about letting the fact that we were pregnant sink in. Thinking of innovative ways to tell our closest family and friends. Didn’t have any of the initial puking and discomfort that most pregnant women have (Am I lucky or what?!) Getting fed a LOT of yummy food. The next three months were even better! Feeling little baby Navya kicking and doing somersaults in my tummy & my hair and my skin have never looked better!! Do I sound like a broken tape recorder yet? The next 3 months were the BEST! SO much pampering, my closest friends threw me a surprise baby shower. We were constantly thinking of baby names, dreaming about whats to come, dreaming about dressing up my baby, thinking of how our life was going to change forever, for the better :) My amazing doctor, who encouraged me to stay fit and active through my pregnancy, is definitely the reason I had such an easy delivery I can’t help but not gush over what an amazing husband I have.. My loving respectful partner through it all, having fun with my pregnancy cravings together, watching baby videos together all night and now staying up with me all night when Navya is being a cranky poo. Poornitha Instagram - I might be smiling here, but I've had (still have sometimes) my share of downs. There are so many of us suffering from internal pain that we don't even want to experience but it exists. And it feels like it's about to engulf our entire life. It's something we can't even explain. There is a name for it... Depression. Over a period of time, after a lot of self doubt and fear, I realised it’s ok to talk about it. And now I think we SHOULD talk about it. Social media does have its good side but the dark side is that we see few happy posts of people and think their life is perfect and we should be living like that. We start doing things that others do, we start pretending, being someone we are not, living a lie. And then finally hating ourselves for that too. Because that's not us. It's not sustainable. Depression is a daily battle within ourselves. It’s very difficult. Life becomes meaningless. Thoughts get heavier. It’s ok to not feel ok. It’s ok that our life is not perfect. If you are sad, it’s ok to show it. We have to accept that we are not ok and get the help we need, whether it’s talking to a friend or getting professional help. There's nothing wrong with it. There are also a lot of people who don’t know what depression is and they can’t relate to people who go through it and that’s ok. Let’s deal with our individual lives. We have to help ourselves get better. To all those strong people going through depression. It’s ok. We are ok. We can fight this. We don’t need to be somebody we are not. Poornitha Instagram - Last month and a half has been hmmm… emotionally and physically draining. I had reached rock bottom in terms of my health. Small gist about my health.. I had undergone a spine surgery in 2016 and I was ok for quite some time after which I gave birth to Navya . The last 6 months my back started acting up again.We consulted a spine specialist here and heard something I never thought I would hear..it showed that my previous surgery hadn’t healed and I will have to get another one this time removing the screws and plates that were planted in my previous surgery and fix a new bone in my spine😳,this time my recovery it going to take a longer time but I am so grateful to the team of doctors, @rohit_aravindakshan who had to go through this with me and stood there holding my hand tightly and the most important care I have been getting is from Navya,my 5 year old ..I couldn’t believe the empathy and compassion she showing towards me🥹. I do have a long road ahead but I am hopeful and grateful to my chosen family for being there. If a person talks less doesn’t mean the person is egoistic or has an attitude .. it could be they are shy or insecure or generally an awkward person.. If someone talks a lot doesn’t mean they are an extrovert or whatever that comes to your mind .. it’s easy to hate or assume or judge people .. it takes a lot being a nice human to give them the benefit of doubt or not assuming ... I personally love reflecting on the previous year and setting personal goals every year :) it's like a new chapter, a new start! This New year, What new changes are you guys going to bring into your lives? If you ask me the one most important thing I want to learn, inculcate and practically put into action, is Self Love. Why don’t we ever cut ourselves some slack and give ourselves a pat on the back? Why are we our own biggest critics? Don't we have enough people around us to do that? Think about the decisions that make up our life. Only we will truly know why we did something why we act a certain way. Yet, why do we crave for other people’s approval? for their validation? And why do we compare ourselves to others? Wishing we had their lives.. Wishing we did those things.. All from a version of their life that we see. In the process of this, we lose ourselves, our individuality. What makes us different.. These are things that I think about quite often. I'm a people pleaser. I'm not saying this to make myself sound great but I almost always put other people's needs in front of mine...and then finally end up getting upset. I was, or actually I may still be that person.. trying to do the 'right' thing, pleasing everyone, doing what people expect me to do, being hard on myself for everything.. Life itself is not easy so let’s just live and let live and mainly hug ourselves and say, "You are doing great!" and start truly concentrating on genuinely being happy Sending all of you lots of love this new year and wishing all you all the happiness.. Poornitha Instagram - Dr.Rohit Aravindakshan, My husband and a man whose has put his life on line to be a frontline worker for covid..has a few things to say- I am not very active on social media but I was inspired by a colleague and close friend along with the widespread pandemonium that has gripped our country with the second Covid wave!   Mainly targeted for non-medical people of India: Standard therapies with proven success worldwide with Covid-19:   -STEROIDS , mainly dexamethasone (ONLY for patients requiring hospitilisation on oxygen) - Prophylactic anticoagulation (Blood thinners , a few group of patients may benefit from a higher dose but that is only if the doctor prescribes the same). -Basic GOOD INTENSIVE CARE and NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!Supportive care (pragmatic usage of oxygen, non-invasive and invasive ventilation, other organ support if needed that may be involved with disease.) - In specific intensive care patients on oxygen/ventilator that are worsening despite the  above mentioned treatment with TOCILIZUMAB although very specific for a few indicated patients only ( NONE of the so called alternatives like Itolizumab,  Bevacizumab , Baricitnib, Interferon 2b are not proven so don’t waste your resources or your time!). No proven benefit on Plasma therapy of covid patients as well.   Possible benefit in specific patient: REMDESIVIR (Benefit only on a metric called time to recovery and not on survival). NOT indicated for patients not needing oxygen.   Nil benefit: Antibiotics ( unless your doctor suspects you to have a secondary bacterial/flu infection): so Doxycycline, Tamiflu, Azithromycin definitely please don’t take them over the counter.   It has distressed me to see so many public posts desperately seeking these unproven drugs and sadly some of our medical fraternity are even endorsing them. I humbly request you all not to please go about buying them from the black market and spend thousands of your hard earned money. Its easy to understand the helpless state people are in but these are not going to change the outcome.   Keep it minimalistic. Poornitha Instagram - QUITE MISERABLE DEAR When someone asks you ‘How are you?’ We almost immediately say ‘I am fine thank you’ It’s a reflex action statement, if that makes sense ... we have seen our parents and friends say it when asked... I have seen my parents have this major fight sequence at home where I am covering my head and ears and if and when the door bell rings or the phone rings and the person on the otherside asks my parents how they were doing.. they would smile and say”we are fine..thank you”... and I would be like whatttttt???? Really???? We are supposed to say we are ok at all times... And Then few years back I met this beautiful woman .. she was wearing a very elegant chiffon saree and a pearl necklace with the grace of a dancer...I was instantly in awe of her.. I was introduced to her and I asked her the usual icebreaker question ‘how are you ?’ and she replied “quite miserable dear” with a smile on her lips but sadness in her eyes..She was so real and honest .. i could feel that she being transparent made the whole environment and people around her drop their guard too.. so positive... and from that day forward i have been freaking honest about how I feel and when people asks how I am? I would be honest with my current feeling and that was liberating ... I dint have to pretend anymore.. 'Mother' is a very very complex word for me, one filled with a plethora of emotions. Ofcourse everyone will say their mom is the best but my mom was truly the best in the entire world :) I had an amazing, strong, powerful and an absolutely beautiful soul for a mom who would move mountains for me. As I sit on my couch with my little Navya sleeping in my arms, all I can think of when I see her innocent and super cute face, is whether i would be a perfect mother to her. The kind of perfect that my mother was :) I'd consider Navya very very lucky if I was even just 10% of what my mother was to me. The person I still look up to, not just for mommy related things, but most importantly how to be a good human. From changing a zillion diapers a day to trying to put her to sleep, to handling her mood swings, to entertaining her, to crying in the bathroom because you feel you can't do this anymore.. being a mom is not easy. Navya was a planned baby and despite that, I feel like I wasn't ready to be a good mom by the time she arrived. Somehow after all that, when my cutie wakes up in the morning, flashes me her toothless smile, that's all the energy I need to get up and be the best mom I can be for my little one :) Happiest 4th month on planet Earth to my little baby girl Navya :) I know her grandma is looking down and enjoying her grow up every single day. #kalyaniunfiltered #beingamom #vsco #vscocam

I understand that all this comes from a place of good intention, but each baby is different and when you become a mother, something I'm experiencing is that you develop this intuition to handle your baby, to care for your little one. Considering you spend every moment with your baby, you know how to soothe them, you learn slowly as to what troubles them, you start knowing their every gesture and with the slightest expression you'll know what they need. Even in all of this, there is this constant self doubt if you're ever going to be a good enough mother for your little one. All this unsolicited advice makes that situation worse! Atleast for me.. new mothers need help. No doubt about it but I think the best thing that anyone who wants to help is wait around to be asked for help first.. It's not easy to be a mom, there are so many changes internally and externally and suddenly you have to take care of this little human who is completely dependent on you. So here's my advice (😁) to all those people who give unsolicited advice to new moms.. all mothers are trying to be the best versions of themselves for their baby, they're all trying to be the best mom in the world.. so stand by them, support them and tell them that they're doing a good job first :) small things like that go a long long way. I understand that all this comes from a place of good intention, but each baby is different and when you become a mother, something I’m experiencing is that you develop this intuition to handle your baby, to care for your little one. Considering you spend every moment with your baby, you know how to soothe them, you learn slowly as to what troubles them, you start knowing their every gesture and with the slightest expression you’ll know what they need. Even in all of this, there is this constant self doubt if you’re ever going to be a good enough mother for your little one. All this unsolicited advice makes that situation worse! Atleast for me.. new mothers need help. No doubt about it but I think the best thing that anyone who wants to help is wait around to be asked for help first.. It’s not easy to be a mom, there are so many changes internally and externally and suddenly you have to take care of this little human who is completely dependent on you. So here’s my advice (😁) to all those people who give unsolicited advice to new moms.. all mothers are trying to be the best versions of themselves for their baby, they’re all trying to be the best mom in the world.. so stand by them, support them and tell them that they’re doing a good job first 🙂 small things like that go a long long way. I used to hear scary stories about the difficulty of being pregnant, constantly throwing up, mood swings, tiredness and just basic discomfort in life. I’m one of those blessed souls clearly who didn’t go through any of that I was in Malaysia for a show and just before our flight back to India, I just knew something was up. How my amazing husband and I searched every corner of that airport, hand-in-hand, and finally found a pharmacy to buy a test. Man.. Was I right!!! (like always :P). What a difference 2 tiny red lines on a stick can make to one’s life :) Rush of emotions, making fun of each other’s happy tears and just had a ball dancing around in our little corner of the Malaysian Airport The first 3 months were all about letting the fact that we were pregnant sink in. Thinking of innovative ways to tell our closest family and friends. Didn’t have any of the initial puking and discomfort that most pregnant women have (Am I lucky or what?!) Getting fed a LOT of yummy food. The next three months were even better! Feeling little baby Navya kicking and doing somersaults in my tummy & my hair and my skin have never looked better!! Do I sound like a broken tape recorder yet? The next 3 months were the BEST! SO much pampering, my closest friends threw me a surprise baby shower. We were constantly thinking of baby names, dreaming about whats to come, dreaming about dressing up my baby, thinking of how our life was going to change forever, for the better :) My amazing doctor, who encouraged me to stay fit and active through my pregnancy, is definitely the reason I had such an easy delivery I can’t help but not gush over what an amazing husband I have.. My loving respectful partner through it all, having fun with my pregnancy cravings together, watching baby videos together all night and now staying up with me all night when Navya is being a cranky poo. There are so many of us suffering from internal pain that we don't even want to experience but it exists. And it feels like it's about to engulf our entire life. It's something we can't even explain. There is a name for it... Depression. Over a period of time, after a lot of self doubt and fear, I realised it’s ok to talk about it. And now I think we SHOULD talk about it. Social media does have its good side but the dark side is that we see few happy posts of people and think their life is perfect and we should be living like that. We start doing things that others do, we start pretending, being someone we are not, living a lie. And then finally hating ourselves for that too. Because that's not us. It's not sustainable. Depression is a daily battle within ourselves. It’s very difficult. Life becomes meaningless. Thoughts get heavier. It’s ok to not feel ok. It’s ok that our life is not perfect. If you are sad, it’s ok to show it. We have to accept that we are not ok and get the help we need, whether it’s talking to a friend or getting professional help. There's nothing wrong with it. There are also a lot of people who don’t know what depression is and they can’t relate to people who go through it and that’s ok. Let’s deal with our individual lives. We have to help ourselves get better. To all those strong people going through depression. It’s ok. We are ok. We can fight this. We don’t need to be somebody we are not. Caption : I might be smiling here, but I’ve had (still have sometimes) my share of downs. There are so many of us suffering from internal pain that we don’t even want to experience but it exists. And it feels like it’s about to engulf our entire life. It’s something we can’t even explain. There is a name for it… Depression. Over a period of time, after a lot of self doubt and fear, I realised it’s ok to talk about it. And now I think we SHOULD talk about it. Social media does have its good side but the dark side is that we see few happy posts of people and think their life is perfect and we should be living like that. We start doing things that others do, we start pretending, being someone we are not, living a lie. And then finally hating ourselves for that too. Because that’s not us. It’s not sustainable. Depression is a daily battle within ourselves. It’s very difficult. Life becomes meaningless. Thoughts get heavier. It’s ok to not feel ok. It’s ok that our life is not perfect. If you are sad, it’s ok to show it. We have to accept that we are not ok and get the help we need, whether it’s talking to a friend or getting professional help. There’s nothing wrong with it. There are also a lot of people who don’t know what depression is and they can’t relate to people who go through it and that’s ok. Let’s deal with our individual lives. We have to help ourselves get better. To all those strong people going through depression. It’s ok. We are ok. We can fight this. We don’t need to be somebody we are not. I do have a long road ahead but I am hopeful and grateful to my chosen family for being there. I had undergone a spine surgery in 2016 and I was ok for quite some time after which I gave birth to Navya . I personally love reflecting on the previous year and setting personal goals every year :) it's like a new chapter, a new start! This New year, What new changes are you guys going to bring into your lives? If you ask me the one most important thing I want to learn, inculcate and practically put into action, is Self Love. Why don’t we ever cut ourselves some slack and give ourselves a pat on the back? Why are we our own biggest critics? Don't we have enough people around us to do that? Think about the decisions that make up our life. Only we will truly know why we did something why we act a certain way. Yet, why do we crave for other people’s approval? for their validation? And why do we compare ourselves to others? Wishing we had their lives.. Wishing we did those things.. All from a version of their life that we see. In the process of this, we lose ourselves, our individuality. What makes us different.. These are things that I think about quite often. I'm a people pleaser. I'm not saying this to make myself sound great but I almost always put other people's needs in front of mine...and then finally end up getting upset. I was, or actually I may still be that person.. trying to do the 'right' thing, pleasing everyone, doing what people expect me to do, being hard on myself for everything.. Life itself is not easy so let’s just live and let live and mainly hug ourselves and say, "You are doing great!" and start truly concentrating on genuinely being happy Sending all of you lots of love this new year and wishing all you all the happiness.. Likes : 2994Poornitha - 3K Likes - Dr.Rohit Aravindakshan, My husband and a man whose has put his life on line to be a frontline worker for covid..has a few things to say- I am not very active on social media but I was inspired by a colleague and close friend along with the widespread pandemonium that has gripped our country with the second Covid wave!   Mainly targeted for non-medical people of India: Standard therapies with proven success worldwide with Covid-19:   -STEROIDS , mainly dexamethasone (ONLY for patients requiring hospitilisation on oxygen) - Prophylactic anticoagulation (Blood thinners , a few group of patients may benefit from a higher dose but that is only if the doctor prescribes the same). -Basic GOOD INTENSIVE CARE and NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!Supportive care (pragmatic usage of oxygen, non-invasive and invasive ventilation, other organ support if needed that may be involved with disease.) - In specific intensive care patients on oxygen/ventilator that are worsening despite the  above mentioned treatment with TOCILIZUMAB although very specific for a few indicated patients only ( NONE of the so called alternatives like Itolizumab,  Bevacizumab , Baricitnib, Interferon 2b are not proven so don’t waste your resources or your time!). No proven benefit on Plasma therapy of covid patients as well.   Possible benefit in specific patient: REMDESIVIR (Benefit only on a metric called time to recovery and not on survival). NOT indicated for patients not needing oxygen.   Nil benefit: Antibiotics ( unless your doctor suspects you to have a secondary bacterial/flu infection): so Doxycycline, Tamiflu, Azithromycin definitely please don’t take them over the counter.   It has distressed me to see so many public posts desperately seeking these unproven drugs and sadly some of our medical fraternity are even endorsing them. I humbly request you all not to please go about buying them from the black market and spend thousands of your hard earned money. I have seen my parents have this major fight sequence at home where I am covering my head and ears and if and when the door bell rings or the phone rings and the person on the otherside asks my parents how they were doing.. they would smile and say”we are fine..thank you”... and I would be like whatttttt???? Really???? We are supposed to say we are ok at all times... And Then few years back I met this beautiful woman .. she was wearing a very elegant chiffon saree and a pearl necklace with the grace of a dancer...I was instantly in awe of her.. I was introduced to her and I asked her the usual icebreaker question ‘how are you ?’ and she replied “quite miserable dear” with a smile on her lips but sadness in her eyes..She was so real and honest .. i could feel that she being transparent made the whole environment and people around her drop their guard too.. so positive... and from that day forward i have been freaking honest about how I feel and when people asks how I am? I would be honest with my current feeling and that was liberating ... I dint have to pretend anymore..
