My dear friend and collaborator @taylorswift has a brilliant album out today….made with the lovely and incredible @jackantonoff (and I’m sure @sharp_stick was working her magic too) among others….it’s innovative, honest, stunning, moving and really fun. There were other special songs in the Midnights ether, beyond the main album’s 13 ….I helped to write and produce 4 of those ….The Great War, High Infidelity and Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve …these songs were released on all platforms as part of the deluxe edition in the 3am chaos last night and another amazing one I made with Taylor and Jack together called Hits Different is available as part of the Target exclusive edition. I love this album and all of the extra songs (some of my favorites we have ever made) and it’s an honor as always to be able to contribute and collaborate with Taylor who never ceases to amaze and delight with whatever pen she’s writing with. @gracieabrams first came to write with me at Long Pond almost 2 years ago. Since then we’ve gathered here several times and written and recorded almost 30 songs together. Working with her has been one of the most natural and effortless collaborations I’ve ever experienced. Every day I would start a new “sketch”, an instrumental idea that I would develop and record. While I was doing this, Gracie would sit on the couch or pace around the room, sometimes directing me if she heard something different, while writing the words and melodies to what I was simultaneously recording. In this way, we often made two or three new songs a day, more than that, we learned to trust each other’s instincts and became close friends. I almost wasn’t able to make this record with Indigo because of Covid and stress and exhaustion (we started and stopped a few times)….but we found a way to make it without compromise. And it’s truly special — vulnerable, honest, stunning, raw and sublime at the same time….Indigo put all of herself into these songs and I feel so excited for her that they’re out in the world now. Thanks to the incredible @bellaicecream who recorded and mixed the entire record — we have worked with Bella for more than a decade (she recorded much of trouble will find me!)…and she really worked so brilliantly to capture and finish all these recordings….it all sounds as good as it sounds because of her….and the amazing @heba_kadry who somehow made it even better with her mastering. This one felt like the right one to share first. The song mourns a loss of innocence and motivation and the grief we all suffer in weird goodbyes. It’s been a year since we released @bigredmachineadjv’s 2nd album, “How Long Do You Think It’s Gonna Last?” It remains one of my favorite records I’ve ever made. The first song “May” from a collaborative record @completemountainalmanac is out today. The origin of the project was a beautiful book of poetry called Complete Mountain Almanac that our sister @jess_dess wrote about her difficult struggle with breast cancer. The brilliant Norwegian singer and composer @rebekkakarijord set Jess’s words to music and Jess and Rebekka invited @brycedessner and I to join them to make this record which is one of the most transcendent I’ve ever been part of. This first song moves me so deeply ….to hear our sister’s reflections on the ephemeral nature of life and her struggle with this disease — set to such beautiful music by rebekka ….and my brother and I getting to play guitars together in support …as we most naturally do….and my sister in law @minatindle ‘s beautiful voice intertwining and singing in harmony with rebekka …it felt very emotional and cathartic, as though we were all embracing Jess and yearning for survival in the music. There’s a lot more to say but I hope you’ll listen to this first song today. The album is out January 27th in @bella_union

I’ve never been more excited about new national songs …it feels like the well is full again. So we decided to play some shows this summer to find our feet again live and test out some new songs…..very soon we will start to share some.
