Aaron Dessner Instagram – The first song “May” from a collaborative record @completemountainalmanac is out today. The origin of the project was a beautiful book of poetry called Complete Mountain Almanac that our sister @jess_dess wrote about her difficult struggle with breast cancer. The brilliant Norwegian singer and composer @rebekkakarijord set Jess’s words to music and Jess and Rebekka invited @brycedessner and I to join them to make this record which is one of the most transcendent I’ve ever been part of. This first song moves me so deeply ….to hear our sister’s reflections on the ephemeral nature of life and her struggle with this disease — set to such beautiful music by rebekka ….and my brother and I getting to play guitars together in support …as we most naturally do….and my sister in law @minatindle ‘s beautiful voice intertwining and singing in harmony with rebekka …it felt very emotional and cathartic, as though we were all embracing Jess and yearning for survival in the music.
