Another throw back from many years ago bouldering in Australia. This one is called Massive Dynamic V11 and it’s an amazing jump established by @nalle_hukkataival. We walked by it on one of my first climbing days that trip and I knew I had to give it some efforts. I quickly got the distance and knew it was possible. A few tries later I almost stuck it but ripped off at the peak of the swing catching my foot in the tree and turning me upside down. Took a few more attempts to get over the fear of that happening again but eventually connected and took it to the top. Good times in OZ. It’s a bummer these areas are all closed to climbing now. Hopefully someday the access issues can be resolved. @philthyl with the capture. @paulrobinson87 and @fernandojimenez_ on the spot. #bouldering @theboulderfield @blackdiamond @blackdiamond_climb
Shuhari V13, Skyland Boulders. Tried this one a few years back and got close but the summer heat won. Made a quick stop this past trip before driving back home to CA and managed to finish it off. Even though it was still really warm, I got lucky with some late afternoon cloud cover. Wonderful climb in a beautiful location above Crested Butte. @blackdiamond @blackdiamond_climb @theboulderfield @frictionlabs #bouldering
Back in Colorado for a quick trip has me reminiscing on days past in Upper Upper Chaos. Flying Piñata V12 is one of my favorites with this unique dyno to a mailbox slot above an ever disappearing bank of snow. After the recent rock slide in the canyon this past summer, it seems this problem is possibly buried forever 🙁, but I will always have the memory of finally latching that slot, solo, high up in the canyon, in a tiny bubble of light amidst the night. #bouldering @blackdiamond @theboulderfield @frictionlabs @blackdiamond_climb
Run to your nearest wall and climb it. It’s Global Climbing Day! @theboulderfield is offering free climbing today from 12pm to 6pm. Come test yourself on some of these new coordination problems. @theboulderfield @blackdiamond @blackdiamond_climb @frictionlabs #globalclimbingday
Even above 10k feet, the quest for cooler temps in July eluded me this year. After quickly shredding my sweaty skin on the hot granite I resolved to stick to the indoor training program until the Fall temps start to roll in. 📸@marymeck. #bouldering @blackdiamond @theboulderfield @blackdiamond_climb @frictionlabs
Forgot about this one from early Summer. A new addition to the CO high country. Tall V10 or so with the crux at the top. Glad I sorted it pretty quick because my knees can’t take too many of those falls anymore. @ryanolsonk with the spot and send vid. @blackdiamond @blackdiamond_climb @frictionlabs @theboulderfield

When climbing competitions are at their best they serve as a venue for discovery. Whether it’s newfound inspiration from those around you, an extra level of try hard you never knew you had, or the chance to really see how you perform under pressure. Competition is and always will be essential in bringing out the best in us. In 2019, after nearly 15 years of competing as a professional climber in everything from raucous local events to World Championships in Europe, I began to get a bit disillusioned with the formats by which we play the game. In response, we launched The Boulder Field Masters Series @tbfmasters where particularly for the OPEN/PRO categories we radically altered the formats to allow for some of the most interesting and entertaining competition climbing that has ever happened. It was experimental, it was stressful, and it was some of the most fun I’ve had in a gym in a long time. Finally, now in 2023, we’re back. Next week @theboulderfield will be hosting The Greatest Flasher which is the first comp in the Series. This format is particularly exciting as OPEN competitors will only get 1 try per boulder in both the Qualifiers and Finals round. Flashing a boulder is the ultimate challenge. You only get one first attempt. In the quest for climbing perfection, there’s no better test. Who will be The Greatest Flasher 2023? This time last year… 3rd Ascent of Flex Luthor 5.15. Missing those quiet cold days up at The Fortress. Been working on a longer film about this route and the cliff but it’s not ready yet. For now here’s a slowed down clip of the crux sequence shot by @agrphoto. @blackdiamond @blackdiamond_climb @frictionlabs @theboulderfield
Before the snow… @yosemitenps
Leaf peepin with @honngy and his @fordbronco last year while we raged the Fortress. A little different vibe for me this year, but definitely missing those popping 🍁🍃🍂.
