I haven’t posted during this traumatic time because I’m wary of the appearance of activism vs actionable change. How do we actually root out a corrupt, undisciplined, and overpowered police force? Barack Obama points this out: “the elected officials who matter most in reforming police departments and the criminal justice system work at the state and local levels.” In LA, the chief of police is appointed by the mayor. Our mayoral elections will be held in 2022. Meanwhile, the district attorney’s office will be decided this November. I will be paying attention to these local elections going forward. In fact, they will take priority. I linked Barack Obama’s full article in my bio, which directs you to a number of resources regarding positive, tangible change in the name of George Floyd.
