In 2022 alone, he starred in “Cha Cha Real Smooth” and “Hustle,” to most recently “The Inspection,” which closed out the 60th anniversary of New York Film Festival. As an actor, Castillo is drawn to a three ingredient formula when it comes to new projects: the script, the story, and the director. If he is able to connect with all three to bring a collaboration to life, he will dive in head first to commit to bringing authentic storytelling to a character. He meets with ODDA digital to talk about his love for New York City, working with Elegance Bratton on his directorial debut, and his busy slate that continues to be ever evolving. “Filmmaking is a collaborative journey, and if I feel like I can go on that with a specific director, then I’m all in. I will admit sometimes the excitement of visionary, well conceived theater makes me feel boring as a filmmaker!!! It’s been 8 years since I was on stage and I couldn’t think of a better, more joyful group of people to do it with. I am mesmerized by every single one of these artists. This experience has been nourishing, both spiritually and creatively. I am grateful, first and foremost, to our playwright @thejoyofvictor for giving us the great gift of their play. We (the American Theater) are so lucky to have you. I look forward to your continued success. You are a true poet. American (tele)visions is now open and running at @nytw79 Come check us out!
