We’re raising $10,000 to provide support for families experiencing the loss of a mother during childbirth (and in some cases a near-miss event). ❤️🩹
Your donations will go directly to @4kira4moms’ Maternal Mortality Response Team: a newly launched direct-response program offering resources and trauma support within 24 hours of the loss (or near-miss event) of a mother during childbirth.
Their team will provide grief counseling and essentials, like food, diapers, baby and household supplies for families during their infant’s first year. We are proud to be supplying a full year of Bobbie to these families. 💚 (For a full list of other donated resources please see the list below.)
We’re calling on our Bobbie Fam to donate $1, $20, $100 — anything you can — to help us reach our goal of $10,000. *Each* of us has the power to change lives, meet basic needs, and bring peace of mind to families experiencing maternal loss.
Brands: You can also support by donating a year’s supply of a product or service. DM @4Kira4Moms to get involved! They are looking for Baby Products, Baby Clothes, Restaurants, Childcare, Diapers, Baby Toys, Legal Services, Funeral Services, Big Box Retailers, Feminine Products, Grief & Family Therapists. Caseworker/Social Workers, Logistical/Distribution Support, and Grocery Store/Food Delivery Services to get involved.

“There’s this idea that if you have a certain amount of education, money; if you have a certain network, or a certain status, then maybe the stats don’t apply to you. But you would be gravely mistaken.” – @elainewelteroth on U.S. maternal mortality rates
Mothers deserve the right to have a safe and supportive birthing experience, and then live to raise a healthy child. Full stop.
The U.S. has the highest maternal mortality rate among high-income countries, and Black women are FOUR TIMES more likely to die of pregnancy-related issues and complications than white women. We refuse to stay silent on the issues impacting our community of parents.
Bobbie for Change is proud to join Elaine and @4Kira4Moms in their fight for improved maternal outcomes, and to amplify their mission and educate on this important human rights issue.
We’ve committed to supporting the Maternal Response Team at 4Kira4Moms and would love for you to join us in making a donation. @4kira4moms is an organization that has been leading the charge and fighting for improved maternal outcomes and policy change throughout the United States since 2018.

💔Sha-Asia Semple deserved so much better. Please follow and support her partner Juwan➡️ @gf_jojo as he fights for change in her honor. Thank you @nytimes for bringing awareness to this tragic story. #shaasiasemple #sheshouldbehere #maternaljustice #lovealwayswins #4kira4moms #blackmamasmatter
Beyond grateful for you’re support. The @bobbie community is AMAZING.
Our objective is to provide immediate support, within 24-hours and up to one year, for families who lost a loved one during childbirth or to mothers who experienced a near miss while giving birth. We will provide integral products and services that meet core needs, relieving undue stress, and offering an extra layer of support for families during their traumatic loss and this integral time of transition.
Support can come by way of providing meals to the bereaved family who is now caring for a newborn and grief counseling for the immediate family, including the mother’s partner, additional young children, and the newly appointed legal guardian/next of kin. We also will provide all newborn necessities including diapers, formula, toys, and other essential baby and family care items. Additionally, we would also like to provide selfcare necessities for the parent/guardian and in some cases necessities for other young children in the household such as clothes or toys to relieve any undue burden on the parent, partner, or caretaker.

Make sure you ask your OB/GYN about the maternal mortality crisis and listen closely to their response. Let’s all take a steps to fight for maternal equality and support Black mothers! #birthequity #lovealwayswins #hearher #4kira4moms #cantstopwontstop
THE VILLAGE IS ACTIVATED! The ancestors are busy! We have promises to keep 🙏🏽💛💫. Thank you to @bobbie @elainewelteroth and everyone who helped bring this project to life. Change is coming. I PROMISE!

One of the most meaningful events I’ve ever been part of💞Last week, I had the privilege of bringing together my community in LA alongside my @Bobbie For Change family to put our stake in the ground on the maternal mortality crisis—a crisis that disproportionately impacts people of color. I got to host a moving conversation with two people I deeply admire who are in the work daily of keeping more of us alive during childbirth—on the ground level and at the legislative level: my own beloved midwife @kimberlydurdin co-founder of @kindredspacela and Charles Johnson of @4kira4moms who is actively changing laws across this country after losing his wife following a routine C-section at Cedars-Sinai in LA.
This crisis is real. So are the families effected by it. And in a world filled with reasons to look away, so much of the work is making sure we don’t.
Tbh I don’t think I’ve ever cried so much at a work event ever. They weren’t all sad tears though. They were hopeful tears. Inspired tears. Ready-to-fight tears. But mostly, they were proud tears. I was so damn proud to be in a room full of mothers, fathers, doctors, doulas, activists, and entertainers who showed up for this issue in the middle of their busy day—and left activated to make change.
I hope you won’t look away. I hope you’ll see your family in this issue and be motivated to get involved. One way to help is to donate to @4kira4moms and @kindredspacela to keep them funded as they focus on fixing this—for all of us.

Now that we finally have a new Congress sworn in. It’s more important than ever to hold them accountable for ensuring mothers and babies receive the care they deserve. Tag your congressional rep and senator in the comments. Demand that they support the #MOMNIBUS and project #BLANKETCHANGE #4kira4moms #maternaljustice #birthequity #cantstopwontstop #relentless #applypressure US Capitol Building
As I watch the landscape of entertainment, and the collective conciseness of our country slowly begin to shift. I’m even more proud of what we accomplished with this episode of @theresidentonfox . Highlighting the U.S. maternal mortality crisis. Demonstrating the catastrophic effects of institutional racism and bias in healthcare. These topics had never before been addressed in prime time television. We went there far before it was trendy for studio executives to do so. Thank you to @outofexile @therealvinessaantoine @malcolmjamalwar @kamalbolden @manishdayal @shauneywood @emilyvancamp and all of the amazing people that poured their heart and soul into this episode. If you haven’t seen the episode you can check it out on Hulu or Fox on demand episode 2 20 “If not now, when?” #applypreasure #4kira4moms #theresident #fox #blackmamasmatter #maternaljustice #lovealwayswins #shameoncedars

Here is a little snippet from a very personal short film I made with my friends at @bobbie to help raise awareness and resources about the maternal mortality crisis, an issue that’s extremely close to my heart.
I was already very pregnant when I learned the U.S. sustains the highest maternal death rate of any high-income nation, a rate that’s climbed by 30% over the past 15 years. This disproportionately affects Black families and mothers—who are four times more likely to die. (12x more likely in New York City.)
When you hear stats like that, you feel either hopeless or motivated to help make a change. I’m hoping sharing this inspires the latter.
Because 84% of these deaths are preventable. There are solutions. Studies show that including midwives and doulas in the healthcare system could prevent more than 80% of maternal and infant deaths.
But if you think these stats don’t apply because of your education, or your economic or social status, you’d be gravely mistaken. This crisis is real and it affects birthing people in all communities in the U.S.
After having bad experiences in the medical system during my pregnancy, I pivoted to midwifery care and it was the best decision I ever made. (Shout out to @kimberlydurdin @kindredspaceLA 💞)
You can check out the full video at the link in my stories. I hope sharing some of my story will encourage you to pay closer attention to this issue and donate to organizations working tirelessly every day to keep us alive by making better care more accessible for us all.
If you feel led to give, please donate to @4Kira4Moms at the link in my bio.
