Ok, so even though this started as a fun thing, I am genuinely interested in and lured by the possibilities of artists being able to create their own content and sell it directly to the fans/collectors in a decentralized marketplace. BUT what I wasn’t aware of, is the negative climate impact NFTs have. Thanks to the fans pointing this out to me!!! So after having done some research, (this is going to get a bit technical) it turns out that some blockchain networks such as Bitcoin and Ethereum run on EXTREMELY high energy consuming protocols called Proof of work (PoW). There are however blockchain networks that run on the MUCH LESS energy consuming protocol Proof of Stake(PoS). However that protocol inherently favors the biggest shareholders (the already rich). The more democratic protocol is the Delegated Proof of Stake(DPoS). Therefore until the Ethereum blockchain has changes their protocol I will not create any more NFTs on it, nor sell any nor interact with it or other PoW blockchains in any way. I will continue the research, because I do sense such potential for real change here.
