There are Deaf people who loathe speaking, that’s ok. There are Deaf people who are comfortable with speaking, that’s also ok. Some are not very good at it. Some are good. Here’s a video of my Deaf family speaking different words – a living proof that we’re all different in how we ‘speak’. We can laugh at ourselves and make jokes out of it BECAUSE we’re in a safe space. We’re comfortable with each other. It’s a fun game, but the real world can be cruel. For any hearing person to make fun of a Deaf person’s ‘speaking’ abilities or pressure them to ‘speak,’ that’s never ever okay.
