Finally started to learn Cinema 4D. Been wanting to get into 3D (other than Element 3D in AE) for a while… Just hard to find the time. I’m two weeks into trying to wrap my head around the basics, and I still have no idea what I’m doing. This is my second render – and I’m a complete newb stumbling through confusion… but it’s fun. Mostly I’m doing this to understand the workflow better so that I can be a more helpful director/partner to the artists I collaborate with. As a director, I think it’s important to gain at least a base working knowledge of all aspects of the process… But so far, it’s an incredibly fun hobby too.

The “I don’t know what I’m doing render” #7. This one was tougher… Figuring out how to spread the plant growth along the model’s geometry was tough. I wanted to play with more earthy vibes here with some fantasy thrown in – and it’s another frame I based off of something I’m developing. Fog is still insanely tough to wrangle. Can’t really get a handle on that one. I finished off in AE for some embers and dust… Everything else was C4D. Must. Watch. More. Tutorials.
The “I have no idea what I’m doing” renders #4 & #5. Toying with light and reflections more. It’s crazy how a crappy model/texture can become passable with the right lighting/angle. I’m really loving the lighting study you can do digitally. Still haven’t wrapped my head around the basics. But still having fun trying.
Awkward family photos… but with B-Movie Monsters. #midjourney
The “I don’t know what I’m doing render” #6. Messing around with staging, practicals, and atmosphere. For this one I created a shot from something I’m currently developing. I can already see how amazing this will be for look dev, pitching, etc… So many more tutorials must be watched.

Render #3 and I still have no idea what I’m doing. Other than the bust – I gave a shot at building everything on this one (including the textures) myself. Then finished off with some of our embers composited in AE. Each new thing I do in C4D gives me 10x more respect for 3D artists than I already had. Now off I go to watch more tutorials.
Shot some stuff for @valentina.vee latest project with @kylasaurus_rex & @jonbrandoncruz for @AdobeVideo & @frame.io. Coming 4/25. #ad

Some of my favorite frames from the new micro short. Always fun to see what you can pull off with very little time and resources. @daniel_with_a_camera DP’d this one for me and really killed it! All available light throughout. Dude can wrangle the sun. What the full short on our YT channel.
Been working with the new @htcvive Mars system and @unrealengine to put @jrobproductions into a virtual environment created for us by the insanely talented creatives at @rebelliondevelopments. Full episode on how we did the shot coming next Thursday. #UnrealEngine #VirtualProduction

Always chasing my kids around with my Fuji x100t. They don’t stay in one place for more than a second – so I have to react fast to ideas. Fun way to practice for sure.
Teamed up with DP @dmrouth again to shoot a new thing for Film Riot. As always, @jrobproductions is faithfully behind the camera whenever he isn’t convincingly in front of it.
