I ❤️ NY! Great theater opens the heart and mind. And feeds the soul. I just love it.
Colin Campbell and Gail Lerner were driving home with their two teenage kids, Ruby and Hart, when their car was struck by a drunk driver. Both Ruby and Hart died. Colin and Gail survived. Their pain and grief was overwhelming. Colin has written a book about their grief process. It is a beautiful and important book. Here is an excerpt:
“By far the most common phrase that gets offered up as condolence to people in grief is ‘there are no words’. We encountered this unhelpful phrase over and over again…This empty phrase encapsulates all that is wrong in how our society handles grief. We need words to process our grief, and if the rest of the world is telling us, literally, ‘there are no words’, then we are going to struggle and feel alone and abandoned in our pain.”
With his book, Finding the Words, @colincampbellwriter examines how we can better grieve together and support loved ones experiencing a profound loss.
I highly recommend this book. Especially if you are in grief. I also recommend buying it now and putting on your shelf in case you need it one day or in case you want to offer it to someone in need.
Today I went to see a @bisabutler work in person. It took my breath away. I’ve wanted to see her work in person for a long time. To see all the detail. It was magnificent. This piece is called Lyric with a Lollipop. It is made with fabrics purchased in Johannesburg, South Africa. This is all quilting. No paint.
