John found the artwork for In Spite of Ourselves in a bookstore prior to knowing who the iconic photographer @elliotterwitt was, only to find out, John was mutually friends with the renowned photographer’s daughter. Years later, John used another photograph from the beloved photographer for the For Better or Worse artwork. “After I recorded the tracks, I went to the library and went to the photography section and started lookin’ for pictures of couples, and I just grabbed a whole stack of ’em. I don’t know one photographer from the other, by the way, but I love black and white photography and I saw an Elliot Erwitt book. And most of the things in the book, I noticed that it was always two people, so everything he was doin’ was in couples. There was the back of two old cars leanin’ in toward each other, that was originally gonna be the cover but then I found that one lookin’ like they were applyin’ for a marriage license and the old couple behind ’em.” #JohnPrine #ElliottErwitt

@folk_alliance : The Elaine Weissman Lifetime Achievement Awards are presented each year to honor the cultural impact of legendary folk music figures: one Living, one Legacy, and one Business / Academic. “ @ohboyrecords was founded by the late John Prine, Al Bunetta, and Dan Einstein in 1980 when, after moving to Nashville, Prine decided he wanted to be a genuinely independent artist. It’s rare that an artist-founded record label becomes iconic, but Oh Boy arguably did as it not only was a main marketing vehicle for most of John Prine’s recordings (he being one of the founders), it has also promoted and nurtured the careers of other very notable singer-songwriters…”
