Big News! Amazon Studios Expands Bosch Universe With Two New Development Deals. Centered On J. Edgar & Renee Ballard Characters
The first, the Untitled J. Edgar project, is a police drama following Harry Bosch’s former partner, Detective Jerry Edgar, who is tapped for an undercover FBI mission in Little Haiti, Miami.
The second project, Untitled Renee Ballard centers around Detective Renee Ballard, who is tasked with running the LAPD’s new cold case division.
I’m thinking about my friend Lance Reddick. More than being a key ingredient in the Bosch show, he was a wonderful person, friend and collaborator. He took a character who was paper-thin in the books and made Irvin Irving multi-dimensional, machiavellian, intriguing and even sympathetic.

We just finished filming another season of Bosch: Legacy and I think that after nine seasons of telling the Bosch story, we have hit a high watermark. We adapted THE CROSSING (2015) but added new stuff and of course paid off last season’s cliffhanger. I’m not sure yet when in 2023 the show will premiere on Amazon Freevee/Prime, but I don’t think anyone will be disappointed. Titus, Madison and Mimi turned in great performances as did all the cast; the usual suspects as well as some new faces. We will let you know as soon as we know when you’ll get to see and enjoy it. Michael announced that he’s writing a Mickey Haller and Harry Bosch novel for November 2023. Title to be announced.
We’ll also see season 2 of Bosch: Legacy (Prime Video/Freevee) and season 2 of The Lincoln Lawyer (Netflix) in 2023. No specific release dates for either of those yet. Bosch: Legacy will use The Crossing (2015) as the main storyline. The Lincoln Lawyer will use The Fifth Witness (2011).
And we may see another podcast in 2023. More details about all of this will be shared in the coming year.
