Fitness is a life journey. While aesthetics obviously play a part, it’s also essential for our state of mind, our sense of well-being. And later in life as the body shifts, because our musculature is literally what supports us physically, it’s vital to make fitness a priority in order to sustain our frame and our mobility. If it’s not something you’re currently making time for, please do it if only to help make sure that you have the underlying muscular support to have the best later years that you can physically.
On another note, as I look at this photo, I remember the young actor I was and the occasional comments some would make at the time that I could play Superman. I remember how quickly I would discount the idea in my head and laugh it off outwardly, because, as a then-closeted gay actor, I couldn’t process the prospect of playing a superhero as a possibility. It’s one of the reasons playing Supergirl‘s father Zor-el years later was such a sweet full circle moment. While I couldn’t fathom as a young gay actor being considered to play those kinds of roles, getting to inhabit that world later in life was a very cool thing. And a heck of a lot of fun. Grateful that, today, LGBTQ actors have a better chance than ever before to play a superhero. Among many other things. 🙂

As the year ends, here are my annual top nine on Instagram for 2022. Queer as Folk leads the charge yet again along with other moments past and present. Among what’s not included is the connection I’ve gotten to share with all of you this year. Thank you for being on this journey together. I really believe that people and our shared connection are among our greatest gifts. I’m very excited to go deeper with you all in 2023! So much more to come. Happy New Year!

My heart is full of gratitude today at turning eighteen years sober off drugs and alcohol. Eighteen years ago, I had no idea the gifts that would come from taking this journey. Some overt and obvious, some nuanced and almost imperceptible.
Maybe more than anything, it’s this deep, profound feeling of thankfulness for the feeling and experience of life that the sober journey offers. It’s not easy to describe, but I’m blessed to have it. The folks I get to travel the path with are, at the same time, gifts of the experience and reasons I’m still on this road.
For, as much as there can sometimes be a pull to isolate or to “do this on your own,” life always happens with others. It can. I’ve realized it’s wise to let it/them in. Thank you to my fellows and my ever-shifting concept of a higher power for this journey and the life it continues to offer.

One of the greatest challenges LGBTQ+ folks can face is countering the negative self-talk that sometimes occurs in our heads or even in the ways we refer to ourselves openly. Recognizing that this self-criticism stems from brainwashed notions that don’t express the truth of our inherent equality isn’t always easy. Though learning to wake up from the deception is certainly a journey of self-discovery that’s worth undertaking.
And rather than turn that negativity outward from ourselves toward each other, as can also happen, overcoming this flawed thinking is something we can actually help one another with. Let’s keep remembering we’re in this together. Have a beautiful week!

Well, that momentous time of year has come yet again when we gather ‘round to celebrate the birth of the one, the only, Scotty Lowell! Please join me (and QAF family @michelle_clunie and @thepeterpaige!) in wishing this dear man a truly wonderful day and year ahead. We love you, @scolo222! Happy birthday!! 🎈🎉
P.S. I know Scott would consider it a fantastic birthday present if you were to head over to YouTube and check out his fantastic series ADOPTABLE which just dropped! So well done!
P.P.S. Have no idea what’s up with that expression I’m making!
Excited to be back on set! It’s going to be a somewhat…harrowing one. More at some point soon! #actorslife #grateful
In my work coaching fellow gay folks, one frequent challenge I encounter is loneliness. Given our years of hiding and not letting others get too close so we wouldn’t be discovered, it makes sense that the distancing we developed originally as a survival skill now sometimes works against us.
This distancing can happen with different forms of intimacy and connection whether with friends, family, or loved ones. And even right when we’re in the midst of other people. There are a number of ways to go about addressing that loneliness. Here’s one powerful first step. More to follow.
We’re all in this together. Much love.

As we embark on this new year, it’s helpful to know that every choice we’ve made, no matter how we perceive it, has been, or can be, a building block with which we create this next chapter of our lives. Trusting that is powerful.
As an inventor, Thomas Edison made 1,000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb. When a reporter asked, “How did it feel to fail 1,000 times?” Edison replied, “I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps.”
There is no failure. Only feedback. Our so-called mistakes can serve us if we let them and use them to teach us. I believe in you. Happy New Year.

When you grow up with a Mom who’s birthday is on Valentine’s Day, suffice it to say that there are many hearts around pretty much all the time. Though is there really such a thing as too much heart? Well, perhaps but not in this case. So Happy Birthday to my dear Valentine Birthday Mom! I love you always and forever, Mom. 💝💗💖♥️

The world presents us with many ideas about “the way things are“ and “the way things work.” But the reality is that no one actually knows. They only have their own experience and what they’ve decided to agree to be true. Which is valuable to an extent, but it also forecloses the infinite number of other possibilities that exist beyond their experience.
This happens all the time in Hollywood. Some will tell you how things are or how things work, and, invariably, the wisest advice you end up hearing is that no one actually knows much of anything. Over and over again, the project that’s sure to be a hit falls flat, and the unknown little project soars and goes on to win many awards. Experience ideally informs us but doesn’t limit us.
So keep this Emerson quote in mind whenever someone tells you the way things are with respect to getting older or being a gay person or being a woman or being a person of color or any other thing that one might have ideas of limitation around.
Because, beyond the challenges, are infinite other possibilities for how things can work out depending on how we choose to see them and how we choose to show up. Countless examples of folks going beyond those limits, rising above those boundaries.
Sending you love today.

So I heard a number of perspectives on this. And since I’m part Irish, I’d like to know where you stand. Okay, my being part Irish has nothing to do with it. 🤦♂️🤷♂️🍀 But, regardless, which side are you on? #ToWearTheGreen #NotToWearTheGreen #StPatricksDay #InquiringMinds
