On this Trans Day of Visibility I allow myself the same grace in my transition as I give to others. The grace to exist on my terms. To wake up every day and choose Vander. Its been about 5 years since I last shared an image of me out of drag on my main feed. For years I’ve dreaded every repost, every tag, every anything of me as boy. I was *so* incredibly lucky to have my break into the industry as early as I did, but with that came an audience who distinctly remembers me for a very specific moment in time that has long since passed. It’s a jarring experience when so many people can only remember/think of you as the person you’ve worked so hard to get away from. Drag was the middle ground, it was the piece from that moment in my life that actually showed a glimmer of my true self. I think for that reason alone I fixated on only ever posting my drag; I wanted people to remember the Queen but forget the boy. But ultimately what I did was hide behind my drag. It’s been a long hard road but I see it now, and frankly, I’m happier with me than I’ve ever been and I just don’t want to care that much anymore.
