In the year 2000 as a new Femina Miss India I had the privilege of wearing Ritu Kumar creations for my international contest to be held in Manila.
We met in Delhi to for the first time at her beautiful home. She had arranged for some of her most exquisitely hand crafted heirloom outfits for me to try on. Each time I wore one of the outfits and stepped out of the changing room I was filled with wonderment. She generously shared the stories of the textile, the laborious hours spent in embroidering each piece by the timeless hands of artisans… and then she generously gave me her heirloom jewellery to wear at the photoshoot that followed.
I will never forget her love, her care and generosity. She enriched my experience at the Miss Asia Pacific – because wearing her creations was an embodiment of her our rich history, tradition, culture and craft.
And over the years she has continued to be generous.
My first film production’Love BreakUps Zindagi’ showcased many of her beautiful garments in the wedding sequences of the movie. Every character feeling and looking exquisite 🙏🏻❤️
Ritu di, thank you. You are so special. Your legacy is your tireless persistence to empower. I love you and will always be grateful.
