Nandita Das Instagram – Happy #WorldTheatreDay! In school, I was part of every play that I could be in. And then during college, I was introduced to street theatre. I was fortunate to have worked with Safdar Hashmi, a firebrand theatre activist who was brutally murdered while performing on 1st January 1989. It is from him that I learnt, art can be a subtle yet powerful tool for social change. Sadly I have no images from most plays that I have worked in over the years. Here is one – Spirit of Anne Frank, a play with 5 women, directed by Roysten Abel. And the other is from the only play that where I did all three: wrote, acted and directed. It was called Between the Lines. I was also fortunate to have worked with amazing people like Habib Tanvir and Barry John. Here is to theatre and to all those who make it happen!
