This photograph was taken yesterday after a hard day’s work. No I wasn’t shooting yesterday, but I have sort of started getting into a discipline, but apart from that I had the good fortune of a friend accompanying me with some scenes that we practiced preceded by some body movement workshops, which are seldom embarked upon these days. My endorphins raced against the need to be better at every moment. It sort of won I guess. The hair was combed as I had to get a passport photo done. Little did I realise that I didn’t know many studios nearby and found one in a not so celebrated ally where I met this man by the name of Arif Shaikh the photographer, who just happened to have such a positive attitude. He was warm, he was hospitable, didn’t care about my profession or the class I represent. We ended up speaking for an hour or so. I guess I know a lot of you reading this wouldn’t reach till this sentence but if you do, just take it easy at times and then maybe run for 30 mins to burn your calories 😆

“Fridge theke aam ke kheyeche” ( who took the mangoes from the fridge?), was a common exclamation by my mother, as literally I was obsessed with it, still am. I remember one time in Barrackpore ( where my grandfather lived ), is where I was trying to be a little adventurous by trying to climb trees to get mangoes, as our several attempts of throwing stones at it went amiss. Hence through peer pressure I was like “mein chadunga”. Mangoes are sweet, but peer pressure was painful and the memory still hurts my back. Yeh aam zindagi.
There comes a time, when you get a win. Albeit a small win. An opportunity to showcase something that matters to you. Thanks to @kgunedited I had received that opportunity in 2017 to be a part of his film Drishtikone which made me embark upon a new journey. A journey through the celluloid. A journey which lets people peek into my various consciousness. A journey that is worth every trouble that there is. Drishtikone shall always be special and most importantly my first. I got to share the stage with stalwarts like @prosenstar @utterlychurni @rituparnaspeaks, KG Sir himself. Although it has been a while, but I am surely just getting started. April 27th, 2023 marks 5 years of its release. Man the butterflies are so real. @surinderfilms

A journey to the top of the mountain Part 1. Well no life hasn’t been that dramatic. Although it was raining epiphanies. The weather had the sweetness that summoned the taste of an apple and the people had the kindness of a warm quilt wrapped around in the coldest and harshest of storms. Aah, the red cheeks, those red cheeks, I am going to miss them. Riddled with the soap bubbles and the dried chilli chicken, I feel I consumed the place a little to take it back with me. I come back home re-engineered, hoping to select better songs. More coming soon…

Times are a little different. Home away from home. New year resolutions were never successful but certain practices are missed. Especially the cricket tournament, while I remember one time scoring around 48 runs and I had felt important as my team secured a win and also in the evening we used to have something called “Haal Khata” in my “mamabari” ( mother’s house ) when we perhaps didn’t even know the idea of an Old Monk, but just needed Fanta and Thumbs Up for a party. I used to have around 10 glasses or maybe more. “Let’s get those days back”, someone exclaimed, I said no man not possible. The naivety had its own charm which somehow dries with wisdom but that party is something I definitely miss. শুভ নববর্ষ everyone, khub bhalo kaatuk shobaar bochor ta.

I often get nervous if I am asked to pose. Wonder what brings on the consciousness infront of a camera. Click click boom. Oh wait, there is a little coffee that you might add to the conversations. I wonder whether we have conversations to have coffee or have coffee to have conversations. Both kills time, otherwise it is rude to occupy the seats of a cafe, even in a not so busy time. Try the Vietnamese Latte, it is quite nice, or maybe a pour over, well that’s what she said.
Journey to the top of the mountain Part 2, well somewhat of it. I wish I could document the trip instead of standing in for the light. How we often forget the camera when all the good things are about to happen or are happening. Although I did catch some of it. I shall list out this beautiful place called Shimla British Resort, which truly provides you with a warm hug in the chilly mountains. Their hospitality is second to none. The Mall Road is clean as a whistle, the only amount of garbage there, is perhaps due to those lovely looking horses that take you for a ride. They can’t control the roughage that they eat. No I didn’t take that ride, but while it rains they also have their makeshift raincoats, which disturbs their neigh-ing a little. The shops are almost a subtle reminder of no matter where you are in India, bargaining toh banta hai. More coming soon…
The stage makes us forget who we are for a few minutes or hours and makes us who we wish to be. Strange to be yourself in this journey, “be authentic” as many exclaim. That is the challenge, it always has been. Meditating helps, observation helps. Observe you. What you want, who you are. Candies, Popsicles, Cola, Beetroot, maybe a mix of all. Yuck. Sweet, bittersweet. Shit I have digressed. Yes, be yourself, is all that you could do.
The Chariots. In this doodle doo doodle dee humdrum of a life, we often have to plan to reach for the stars. Little do we realise our ambitions are bolted by comparisons and peer pressure at times. Stars are a thing of the sky, but for everything else there is this Bat-mobile. Some “nahi jayegas” to “gpay hai kya?”, whatever the questions maybe, the rides though bumpy are often memorable. Some sing songs, some have surrendered, but the spirituality is simple and transactional, yet the stories that they have are absolutely immaculate “ Woh dekho Bachchan saab ka ghar!”
