Every Tuesday I am celebrating actors I love! Today I am spotlighting the captivating Felisha Terrell, who is currently starring as the dangerous and devilish Daphne in the new ABC series THE COMPANY YOU KEEP. I have known Felisha for many years now and have always been impressed by her work ethic and her desire for collaboration; she wants to dig deep to discover the truth. She has a generosity of spirit that makes her a welcome addition to any set. Now Felisha shares some tips with you: 1 – Lean into and trust the magnificence of what you and only you can bring. I know it’s easier said than done as I too spent too much time trying to be what I thought they wanted or execute what I thought they were looking for. The truth is casting directors are your biggest champions. They love finding actors and are excited about discovering you so don’t be afraid to make brave and bold choices. 2 – I’m at my best when I’m free to play. I focus much of my work on clarity and connection. Be so prepared- know your lines backwards and forwards not just to be off book- but to understand and be clear about your POV- be a detective- what’s underneath the lines? Process is personal, but whatever it is for you- lay the foundation for your house..do that work so when you walk on set you can trust it’s in you , then let it all go and put your attention on the most important person- your scene partner. 3 – Be human. In real life we don’t pre-plan or pre-shape. When we are present, we are listening and responding. If you’re asking a question in the scene, really ask it. Be moment to moment. If you have 80 in the emotional tank, don’t show 82. Trust that you’re enough because nothing trumps truth. Felisha has more tips to share with you in the comments section below. Keep reading!
