Happy Father’s Day to all those fortunate enough to take on the role of being a dad or father-figure. To Malia and Sasha, being your dad will always be the greatest gift of my life.
Where does the time go? Happy birthday, Sasha! It’s been the greatest gift to watch you become such a confident, intelligent, and beautiful young woman. Can’t wait to see what this year ahead brings you.
Tina Turner was raw. She was powerful. She was unstoppable. And she was unapologetically herself—speaking and singing her truth through joy and pain; triumph and tragedy. Today we join fans around the world in honoring the Queen of Rock and Roll, and a star whose light will never fade.
I had fun answering some questions about my work journey. Check it out, and then make sure to watch Working: What We Do All Day on Netflix.
Finally get to set the record straight.
I had an inspiring day with our 2023 @ObamaFoundation Leaders. They’re working to make our communities more inclusive and more equitable—and showing the rest of us the way. I’m so proud of you all. Athens, Greece
I’m inspired by the courageous Africa, Asia-Pacific, and Europe @ObamaFoundation Leaders I met in Athens, Greece.
They’re working on the most pressing issues facing our world – from climate change and human rights to empowering women and girls.
Take a look:
On the 11th anniversary of DACA, I wanted to share the powerful stories of Tony, Jessica, Devashish, Josue, and Sumbul—five DACA recipients I met last year who talked to me about the impact that DACA had on their lives:
Jessica Astudillo was born in Ecuador and grew up in New York. She works as a pediatric resident physician at NYU Langone Health, and took care of pediatric patients during the pandemic.
Josue de Paz was born in Mexico and grew up in California. He was one of our @ObamaFoundation Scholars at Columbia University, and now runs a nonprofit that works to empower and support low-income high school students.
Devashish Basnet was born in Nepal. He graduated from Hunter College and is now a Rhodes Scholar studying refugee and migration patterns.
Sumbul Siddiqui was born in Saudi Arabia and grew up in Georgia. She didn’t even know she was undocumented until she reached her senior year of high school. Today marks her first day working as a family medicine resident physician at the University of Chicago.
Then there’s Tony Valdovinos. Tony was born in Mexico and grew up in Arizona. He found out he was undocumented after trying to enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps at 18. He went on to become the first undocumented person to work at Phoenix City Hall, and now runs a firm that helps mobilize voters in marginalized communities.
These powerful stories illustrate the promise of DACA recipients and how important it is to protect them. We are a better nation—a stronger nation—because they’re here. Let’s continue to organize and push Congress to build an immigration system that offers these Americans a permanent pathway to citizenship.
This Memorial Day, take a moment to honor the brave Americans who have served our country and given their lives for our freedom. May God bless our fallen heroes, their families, and all who serve.
On National Gun Violence Awareness Day, we #WearOrange to honor the victims of gun violence—and commit to taking action.
No one should ever have to lose a loved one simply because they went to school, or church, or the grocery store, or walked down the street. No other country on earth experiences gun violence at the rate we do here in the U.S. And every day that we fail to act, we signal to the rest of the world that we are willing to live with the status quo rather than pass common sense gun safety measures that will save lives.
If you’re as tired of this as I am, keep calling for change, keep voting, and keep urging your members of Congress to take action. And support organizations like @Everytown by getting involved at WearOrange.org.

Our democracy is stronger because of the work @EricHolder and the @DemRedistrict have done—and they’re not slowing down. Yesterday, they announced 13 new priority states in the fight for fair maps.
In 2017, Joseph Williams volunteered to read a book to the students in his child’s classroom on Chicago’s South Side. That reading led to another and would inspire other fathers to join him. That same year, Joseph launched @MrDadsFathersClub, a non-profit committed to having fathers and positive male role models read and serve as mentors to students in classrooms throughout Chicago.
In 2022, Mr. Dad’s Father’s Club received one of our @MBK_Alliance Freedom Summer grants to support their work. Today, the organization serves nearly 1,200 children, and hosts weekly training sessions for those looking to get involved in the program.
To Joseph and all of the dads working to make a difference in the lives of our young people, I hope you have a great Father’s Day. It’ll take all of us doing our part to build the brightest future possible for our kids. Chicago, Illinois
Michelle and I started the @ObamaFoundation to support the next generation of leaders creating sustainable change in their communities.
This week, I’ll be joining our Obama Leaders in Greece where we’ll share ideas and dive deeper into the work they’re doing.

For World Refugee Day, 2020 Obama Europe Leader Sofia Kouvelaki gave some of her fellow @ObamaFoundation Leaders a tour of the @HomeProjectOrg. They’re addressing the urgent refugee crisis by caring for unaccompanied minors in Greece. Learn more about their work at HomeProject.org.

My sister Maya and I had the chance to speak with the talented Asia-Pacific Obama Leaders about leadership, the values that are important to us, and the work they’re doing to lift up their communities.
