Common Instagram – I’ve always loved my city, my home Chicago. It has shaped and blessed my life in ways greater than I can express. With all that has gone on in Chicago, it has been hard to recognize and see the beauty and soul of the people. The people in Chicago are divinely special and dynamic, and I will do ANYTHING to help the people of our city and support Chicago. This time, that love and commitment came through my support for our new Mayor, Brandon Johnson. I have never come out and endorsed a mayoral candidate in Chicago since Mayor Harold Washington (and back then, I was a freshman and my support wasn’t as amplified). My first conversation with Mayor Brandon Johnson was before he was mayor, and I felt I was speaking to a human being who cared about all the people. I loved how he spoke about preventing violence with mental health support and providing jobs to youth. I loved how he spoke about creating an economy where the people in the neighborhoods could own property (as my father used to say to me, “get land”), and realistically, we did help build this, boy. I also knew I was talking to someone who believed in a higher power, and with that comes humility, purpose, a sense of service, and knowing how to love. So many of my friends reached out to me and said how inspired they were after the Mayor’s inaugural speech. I’m proud to say we have a new Mayor, and with that, a new day and a new hope in Chicago. #andyousaychicity
