I am overflowing with gratitude this morning! Wow. Boys Will be human is #3 on the New York Times Best Seller list. We did it! YOU did it.
But here’s the truth. This book was NEVER written to make a list. While I honestly don’t like lists for the same reason I didn’t like voting for homecoming king or even for awards in TV and film – at the same time, it is really validating. Mostly because as a boy I never felt good enough… I never felt seen by my peers. I honestly never thought I would ever be smart enough or successful enough to be on a list like this that exemplifies success in such a specific field, let alone a book list!
So today, I acknowledge that the tears in this video are a little boy who feels so seen by a list that at the end of the day really doesn’t matter. And to any other author who has written books and NOT made this list… I see you. You are so much more than the list. And I say that as someone whose first book DIDN’T make it. Who was never voted homecoming king or even made the court and knows what it feels like to not feel seen and wanted.
Thank you all for supporting, sharing, and buying the book for our boys. The fact that boys are reading the book gives me so much hope. Hope for a future where our boys can be the change this world needs so much right now. Hope for a world that is safe for everyone, a world where our boys know that being human is more than enough.
And can you say thank you Johanna Castillo and Claudia Gabel and the whole team at Harper Collins for believing that this work was worthy of your time.

Treat Williams was a great man.
When I was 21 I booked my first series (Everwood) and had to pack my bags and move to Utah in a matter of days. I joined in the fourth season so everyone had already known each other for years. I didn’t know anybody and was so intimidated to be working on such a well-written and acted show. Treat Williams was a legend. He brought me in, showed me so much kindness, and made me feel like I was a part of the family. He would often show up with Vermont Candy from his town’s little store, and fresh maple syrup and pass it out to the cast and crew.
He took me out on his boat, mountain biking, and treated me like a little brother. He was a good good man.
I also just learned John Beasley passed away two weeks ago. John was one of the most humble and kind veteran actors I have ever met. His heart bled for service and charity and worked hard to build a theatre in his hometown that sent the elevator back down. Just like Treat, he made me feel at home in a new place and a new job. He was always smiling. Always joyful. And what an actor he was.
I hadn’t spoken to either of them in years, but man do I wish I would’ve reached out to just catch up and say hello.
Going to re-watch HAIR and RUDY and celebrate their life and legacy.
Life is so damn precious. Hug the ones you love and call the ones you haven’t in a while. Time doesn’t slow down… it just goes by faster and faster.

Let’s be real. Death is terrifying for most of us. When we lose someone we love or when we hear about someone passing suddenly or tragically it’s devastating and heartbreaking. But what if this wasn’t the end… what if it was actually the beginning?
A Baha’i once asked Abdu’l-Baha: “How should one look forward to death?” Abdu’l-Baha answered:
“How does one look forward to the goal of any journey? With hope and with expectation!”
I believe the hardest journey a man is ever going to take is the Journey from this head to this heart.
