20 years ago today, my Dad died. So this morning, my brother Don and I took our Mom to church. Shockingly, the roof didn’t cave in on the director of DOGMA. The mass was celebrated in memory of Pop – a man who shaped my life, both literally and figuratively before he left this world. Two decades back, my whole family happened to be in Philadelphia at the same time – so they all came to my #wizardworldphilly Q&A. After the Q&A, we went to dinner at @mortonssteak: @jenschwalbach, me, Dad, Donald, @donsgirlgrace, @virginia_in_vienna & her husband Eric (Don’s husband Jerry was stuck in Florida), where we had the time of our lives for the last time in his life. After a memorable meal with the family he co-created, Dad died in the wee hours of the following morning, June 1, 2003. A portion of his ashes have resided with me since his cremation, as a constant reminder of the quiet patriarch without whom I wouldn’t even exist. My sister has long maintained that I based Silent Bob on Dad – the guy who said very little unless he had something funny or insightful to impart (ironically, that would mean Jay is based on my Mom). I don’t know if I got Silent Bob from Dad, but I got nearly everything else. In the pic of me at the lectern, the bald spot in the front row is my Father – who fed me Standup comedy albums as a kid and loved to watch me talk to a crowd, knowing those records made an impact on his youngest son. While growing up, Dad took me to the movies all the time too – so he likely knew both my careers as a storyteller came indirectly from his unintentional influence. I’m happy he got to meet @harleyquinnsmith (he was a big fan), but he’s been gone twenty years and I still miss him. So if you can (and if you wanna), hug your Dads for me today, Kids. And if you’re in Toronto on Friday or Jersey on Saturday, come see me at the @sandersoncentrebrantford or @smodcastlecinemas. That sounds like a self-serving plug because it is – but it’s also in memory of a guy who’d still be in the front row watching me if he could. Miss you, Pop. Rest in Power. #KevinSmith #dad #mementomori

The Jersey Girl came to see JERSEY GIRL! @raquelxcastro paid a visit to my beloved @smodcastlecinemas to cap off a Memorial Day weekend full of shows! On Friday, we showed JAWS as part of the Movies That Made Me series. Then on Saturday night, we watched my flick RED STATE. But Sunday saw a reunion with the little girl who, at age 7, preternaturally played the role of Gertie in my sixth flick. We screened what we were calling JERSEY GIRL: The Snyder Cut, because it was the longest version of the flick ever edited, with an entire first act full of @jlo that got cut out due to post-Gigli hysteria. I haven’t seen any cut of JG since 2006, so it was a trip to see the movie I originally made #bennifer two decades ago. Hopefully, @paramountplus will want to stream it in 2024 for the 20th anniversary. It’s almost an entirely different flick. Also entirely different: Raquel, who’s now about 2 years younger than her cinematic Dad #benaffleck was when we shot it. I was happy to discover our troubled film didn’t ruin Rocky, who grew up to be such a wonderful kid with a great head on her shoulders. I can’t thank her enough for a killer kid performance, as well as for making the trip all the way from L.A. to be at #smodcastle with an ardent audience. It was a lovely weekend (with 3 profitable pre-show auctions, thank you bidders), during which I got to wear a trio of different jackets, as well as my new Smodcastle sneakers made by @1craftypunk! Next up: BABBLE-ON this Saturday and WATCH WITH KEV: @dctheflash on June 15, 16 & 17! Tickets available now at SmodcastleCinemas dot com! Take a trip to Smodcastle, where the movies come to play! #KevinSmith #smodcastlecinemas #raquelcastro #jersey #newjersey #film

July 29th at @smodcastlecinemas!
I cannot stop time so I’ll be turning 53 (on August 2nd)! So help me celebrate this awful day by coming out to the Castle for
KEV’S 53rd BIRTHDAY COSPLAY SUPERMAN LIVES SCRIPT READING!
Come dressed as your favorite character and be who you wanna be while my friends and I bring my unproduced SUPERMAN LIVES screenplay to life!
26 years ago, I wrote a script for a Superman movie that never happened, which would’ve been directed by Robert Rodriguez and would’ve starred Nicholas Cage! Hear that story come to life as we read the longest 1997 draft!
Dress-up is not required for admission but why wouldn’t you take this opportunity to play Halloween in July? We’ll be giving out prizes for the best costumes, so bring your cosplay A game! Get the VIP photo ticket and take a pic with me after the show in my Silent Bob costume! It’s gonna be a night to remember with an old man you can’t forget (since he’ll never go away)! Get your tickets now at SmodcastleCinemas dot com!

Hallelujah, Mom’s home!
After over 10 weeks in hospitals (including a few near-death days), my Mom is finally back in her house again, reunited with her beloved 20 year old cat, Princess! Thank you to everyone who sent both well-wishes and cards these past few months. It meant the world to Mom (and me). If you can, go hug your Mom’s, Kids! #KevinSmith #mom #catsofinstagram
