I am the type of artist that has to do something a hundred million times to get it in my body. Adding water only intensifies this. Practice will never make perfect. That’s what makes rehearsal so sacred. Rehearsal is the time and place to explore the infinite colors of emotion that dance has the power to evoke and gives us an opportunity to explore the nuances of how even the smallest changes in choreography can help deliver the narrative. There is always an opportunity to grow and discover new things, new ways, new sensations, and new depths of your artistry and humanity. Dance, and human expression through movement, is meant to be raw, real, and make you feel. It was never meant to be perfect, and neither are we. Keep growing. Keep learning. Keep dancing. I love you. Hard to believe it’s been one year since we filmed the @MagicMikeMovie water dance. It feels like yesterday and a lifetime ago. I don’t think I will ever know how we were able to do what we did that day, but that is a tale for another time and place. @magicmikemovie I left a part of myself on this stage, in this performance, and in this film, that I will never get back. And I wouldn’t have it any other way. Telling a story without saying a word requires giving everything you are to a moment in time that will never come again. It can be scary, but the idea that every performance allows you the opportunity to go and grow deeper and deeper is, for me, one of the most thrilling parts of being an artist. Pouring your whole self, mind, body, and soul, into a moment of movement in hopes of giving the audience the gift of an experience that could positively enhance or impact their life is a sacred art. I am so grateful for the opportunity I was given in this film and for the universal language we call dance. Sending love and respect to all my fellow artists around the world who sacrifice so much of themselves and their lives day in and day out, in the hope of inspiring others through art. I see you. A year ago at this time an injury decimated my life as I knew it. I didn’t know if I would make it fully back.. not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. I disappeared and entered my dark night of the soul broken from the inside and out. At first it was impossible to see any hope in the darkness. Most days I asked the sun and moon why they even bothered to come out and shine. In time, and with the love & support of professionals & my closest people, I came to learn that the destruction I experienced was divine protection and redirection to guide me to places I would have never reached otherwise. Today I’m standing here as the the rain in Rio carries my tears away, but this time they are tears of joy, not pain. Thank you @HoneyMoon & @MissAlexKaye for seeing something in me that I couldn’t see in myself. This is one of the most unexpected twists in my story thus far and there is no place I’d rather be than here on this journey with you and all of the incredible artists on this team as we travel the world together in the name of art.
