Today would’ve been my dad Bob’s 75th birthday. He died last October of leukemia. I love him and I miss him and I still talk to him from time to time. Here’s a picture of him holding my son Henry, who died in 2018. My dad took very good care of Henry and his brothers too. I am so grateful I could care for my dad over the 2 years he was sick. Look at the love in this photo. See you around, guys.
Shoutout to the worker at Costa who gave me another iced coffee after I immediately poured the first one she made for me on the floor at the airport. She also let me put the yellow “caution” sign out myself like a big boy!
So this is fun! Follow my finger to see a section of this London plane tree that was not “pollarded” this year. If you zoom in you can see it’s because there’s a big nest there the crew spared. I remember being so upset when the London planes on our street were pollarded (MEGA-pruned) the first year we lived here. Little did I know how fast and thoroughly the new leaves would roar in soon after. Anyway I know most of my followers are arborists and bird watchers and that this photo would make their day. 🌳🪺

Last night A HEART THAT WORKS won Best Audiobook from the UK’s Radio Academy. It is of course bittersweet to win an award for a book about our son Henry, who died five years ago of brain cancer. I said in my unplanned speech that I’d rather have been tucking him in to bed than accepting the award. But I can’t do that because he died. I am, however, grateful that people are reading and listening to the book. I love that so many people know about Henry. I am so happy that so many other bereaved parents and siblings have read the book and told me they recognized themselves in it. People seem to really respond to the audiobook which I guess makes sense since it’s such an intimate personal story and it’s read by the guy who wrote it. Was particularly happy to be presented the award by @josierones! Anyway I miss our dear Henry. Look how happy he is in the last picture. ❤️📚
