I’ve helped purchase 1,200 copies of the books that were removed alongside my own from elementary school shelves at Bob Graham Education Center in Florida. Today they were made available for free for anyone at our #Freadom book giveaway earlier today @ the Sanctuary for Banned Books @ The Coral Gables Congregational Church, along with a free poetry reading featuring amazing authors like @poetrichardblanco . So happy to see these books—not only mine, but the ABCs of Black History and Love to Langston, scooped up by young readers. This amazing standing-room turn out shows how important books and stories are to our children, and we will fight every step to keep literature accessible the next generation. 📚📒💛here’s to free reading!
