#TBT to 5 years ago this week when I cut my own bangs the night before appearing on national TV. #BigMistake
[ID: BDH (left) stands next to Chris Pratt (right) to greet the Jimmy Kimmel Live audience. BDH’s hair is down and her bangs are swept to the right because they are two to three inches TOO SHORT. Not cute short like Audrey Hepburn; short like how my Mom would cut my bangs in 2nd grade.]

Happy 5th Anniversary to this WILD ride 🎢🦖 #JurassicWorldFallenKingdom
The gyrosphere drop with @standup4justice will forever hold a special (terrifying) place in my heart — and if you can read lips, you’ll know exactly how terrified I was 🤣 #JurassicWorld #JurassicJune
If there’s ONE thing I wish I knew 20 years ago when I first started in the industry… it’d be “The Emotional Cycle of Change:” a powerful model that captures the emotional rollercoaster of learning something new. 🎢
Spoiler alert: there are some high-highs and low-lows. But here’s what’s fascinating: the highs and lows are determined by the amount of INFORMATION you have over time. As they say, “information is power!”💡
Now. I believe this business is more volatile than most because access to information is intentionally withheld and traded amongst insiders. So the process of gaining experience and becoming empowered with information is key if you are to move through the emotional cycle of change. The lack of transparency is holding our industry back and it is the responsibility of anyone who has access to share.
Here are the five emotional stages that you can expect when embarking on a creative project or experience:
1. Uninformed optimism
2. Informed pessimism
3. Valley of despair
4. Informed optimism
5. Success and fulfillment
I’ll be honest, there’s no secret formula to avoid going through these stages, BUT by embracing The Emotional Cycle of Change, we can navigate the ups and downs of a career in the arts with more resilience and clarity.

To my Dad, husband, godfather, godfather of my kids, and to so many others who have parented my kiddos through the years: thank you for your constant presence, your unconditional love, your legitimately funny Dad jokes, and your quiet heroism. I love you all so much.
And for those celebrating today, check out #DADS on AppleTV (directed by yours truly) for all the #FathersDay feels ❤️

Mama, I love you — Happy Birthday you adventurous, empathetic, brilliantly creative, legendary matriarch of a woman!

Episodic directing on Star Wars is heaven on earth for many reasons — not only do I get to work under the leadership of @jonfavreau and @dave.filoni, but the directors also have access to the most cutting-edge technology available!
But sometimes you just gotta do it the old-fashioned way:)
Here’s a tiny moment from how @ninemusesentertainment collaborator Nia Farrell and I blocked out one of my favorite scenes in Ep. 5 of @thebookofbobafett. The fun in #StarWars truly never ends ✨
“Who’s sitting in the director’s chair?” 👀
According to the latest UCLA Hollywood Diversity Report, underrepresentation continues for directors, despite some important gains. 3 out of 10 directors are people of color and 2 out of 10 directors were female-identifying in 2021.
That’s why Claire Thomas and I collaborated with woman-owned and ethical/sustainable home goods shop @saffronandpoe to design a collection of director’s chairs to support FREE THE WORK, a nonprofit global initiative and talent discovery platform for underrepresented creators.
And it makes me ecstatic to see powerhouse directors like @gpbmadeit, @mariannapalka, @nataliemoralesloves, and Karyn Kusama joining the charge!
Join us this holiday season and celebrate @freethework with your very own Director’s Chair – and don’t miss on on Saffron + Poe’s biggest sale ever! Through November 28, Saffron + Poe is offering 15% off site-wide and a chance to shop seconds for up to 50%. Link in bio ☝️
