I remember in the beginning of my tv/film career fighting against the idea of stereotypes by rejecting the idea of a character before looking at the soul of their story and what it might do for mine. I was only able to get out of my own way when I realize I did in fact love the essence of the character anyways and so I decided I did not have to play into the label but instead uphold the ESSENCE OF THEIR CHARACTER.
