Here’s a delicious animation treat! A pencil test from genius Milt Kahl (1909 – 1987) one of my all time favourite character animators. This is the wonderfully exuberant Madame Medusa from the Rescuers.
First is the pencil test at normal speed (24 frames per second) then the second is slow motion so you can dribble watching his genius. Look at the detail in the movement and the fantastic observation.
Before the great Richard Williams sadly died I was lucky enough to spent time with him in his studio analysing many of Milt Kahl’s pencil tests in slow motion. He had many photocopied scenes of some of Milt’s greatest work. He was Richard’s hero.
I will treasure those times and Richard’s wonderful animation insights and for passing on his passion for Milt Kahl.
