( Portuguese abaixo) 🦋Butterflies, allies, flowers, sacred waters. I will always remember this trip with my film-maker sisters to the sacred homeland of the Ava-Canoeiro people, singing in the car, mourning the soy monocultures, while dreaming of new stories to create a new future. 🦋

“There was a time when we were all indigenous to a place. It never occurred to us to poison our rivers to make money. What if that world could once again be our future?” I share my vision for a future based on the indigenous teachings of my ancestors.
The video premiered on 8th June as a preface to Pangea: a new work by Love Ssega and an ensemble of Philharmonia musicians, exploring climate refugees and presenting a positive vision of hope for our future.
Join @futurereboot over the next few weeks to explore what it means to be a #futureancestor, inspired by the work of @lovessega and the @philharmonia_orchestra. Visit the campaign hub in Reboot the Future’s bio for more details.
After a long hiatus Compost Queen is back! I wrote and made this one a while back with @iamanasalles and @joshwhiton the founder of @makesoil – but when I met the wonderful humans behind @goodancestorco I knew that I wanted to include their beautiful handmade ceramic compost bin in the story. Giving our food back to the Earth is such a sacred act, but doing so in a plastic container was not feeling very sacred or aligned. So when I learned about these sacred vessels that look so beautiful on our countertops – I knew I wanted to support their work. Now taking my “organic matter” to the compost bin outside every other day feels like a sacred ritual, an act of reverence and reciprocity with the Earth. And remember to look up @makesoil if you can’t compost at home, or consider becoming a Soil Site yourself. It’s the one thing we can start doing today! All the love, from Compost Queen 💌 🥕🥦🌽🍇🍍

Calling in the ancestors with this ancient ceramic pre -Incan water whistle at the @museocasadelalabado with @lhuelalocadelcentro and @andresalonso7 .. I don’t play any instruments but this one came so naturally to me.. I can only imagine that the soundscapes created by my ancestors were just as beautiful as the landscapes they left behind. As Indigenous rights are being eroded all over South America, may these beautiful sounds bring back the memories of all we have lost… our sacred connection to plants, animals, fungi, mountains, rivers, ocean – our birthright to be co-creators in beauty and biodiversity. By enslaving ourselves to capitalism and as a result of our arrogance and short-sightedness we are losing the cultural and biodiversity that makes our existence on this planet so special. This time in human history has been entrusted to us and the decisions we make will effect future generations. What will we choose? Biodiversity or profit? Shares in invisible wealth or true prosperity of clean air, water and soil? Tolerance and loving kindness or shame and hatred? What world will we create ? 🌿 🌍
When I first came across @ninagualinga and her incredible work a few years ago, the idea of visiting her in her village of Sarayaku was a distant dream. That dream was recently made a reality when I was invited to celebrate @ninagualinga’s 30th bday surrounded by her friends, family and ayllu (community). What a privilege for @andresalonso7 and I to wake up and drink Guayusa with her mama, and listen as she interpreted our dreams and shared her wisdom. What bliss to swim in these crystalline waters and appreciate the beauty of a primary rainforest, lovingly managed by the Kichwa community. I know our respective Quechua and Kichwa ancestors were and still are connected by language and culture and by a shared reverence for Pachamama… thank you @ninagualinga @helenagualinga @inayusiren for welcoming me to Sarayaku, the first of many trips I hope to make you this magical part of the Amazon. 🔹And thank you @andresalonso7 for saying yes to this trip of a lifetime. The image of you drinking chicha will be forever embedded in my memory 😂.

🇬🇧 Audio 🇧🇷 legendas 🔹 Thank you to @casadaarvorealter, @weena_tikuna for giving me the opportunity to visit Alter do Chão, sacred homeland of the Borari People. The need to protect indigenous land and allow indigenous people control over tourism is even more clear to me now. I can’t wait to come back and fall asleep to the sounds of the jungle again… 🐒🍃🛶🌺
May my aunties Eugenia and Esther rest in peace. Both died of cancer when I was young. Both were unknowingly exposed to DDT at a young age. Thankfully the chemical DDT was banned after the Bald Eagle was listed under the Endangered Species Act. But how many more of our loved ones have to die of mysterious cancers and other chronic illnesses due to the toxic chemicals that industrial agriculture is spraying on our food and leaching into our waters? Please join @centerforfoodsafety in their fight to list the Iowa Skipper as an Endangered Species, paving the way for the most toxic of these chemicals to be banned. Remember, if it’s bad for the animals down the food chain, it’s bad for us. We are animals too. Sign the link in my bio to support if you want to live in the world free from cancers and full of butterflies. 🦋
Help Save a Species!! Sign the petition in our bio to help #SaveTheSkipper 🦋
Forty percent of the world’s insects will go extinct in the next few decades. 40%! 😤
A group of beautiful butterflies native to the tallgrass prairies in the central United States have been especially hard hit as 99% of our native grasslands have been converted to inhospitable landscapes covered with industrial agriculture. 🚜💨🌾
One of those butterflies – the Iowa skipper – is in especially dire shape. ❤️🩹 Due to the spraying of pesticides, habitat loss, and climate change; the Iowa skipper hasn’t been seen in some of the states it used to call home for 15 years! 😫
That’s why we’re filing a petition to get the Iowa skipper the Endangered Species Act protections it needs to survive. ✊ By winning protections for one butterfly species, we can help countless others survive by protecting the habitats so many call home! 🌻
SIGN ✍️ our listing petition [ LINK IN BIO 🔗 ] to show the agency that the public supports giving the Iowa Skipper these Endangered Species Act protections. 🤲
