S U F F E R I N G. As I continue to understand and grow in #mentalhealth and #wellness, this little nugget dropped into my lap today and I thought I’d share.
I asked a young woman from Thailand what was one of the most valuable lessons she’d learned/experienced growing up Buddhist. She said, “how to stay calm and not let my emotions bring out my ‘hot potato head.'”
“Hot potato head,” I repeated?
“Yes, I used to get a hot potato head and get angry a lot,” she replied.
She then began to teach me how, in Buddhism, one learns to get out from suffering:
1. ACKNOWLEDGE that you are angry or suffering.
2. DEFINE why you are suffering.
3. SEEK out the solution to end the suffering
4. DO the solution.
The DO-ing is the tough part. That’s the toughest hurdle in the process.
JUST DO IT.
I double dog dare you to try this and apply this to every area of your life where you experience anger, pain or suffering.
I hope you find this as helpful as I am learning to.

I’m crying @yaelstone! Crying. If folks only knew the #BTS of this moment. Us figuring out the songs, the harmonies, singing it for the producers in our dressing rooms. Them loving it, but making sure they had the legal rights for us to use these songs. Such wonderful memories of letting artists play and create. This is what we’re fighting for when we say, we deserve a piece of the pie. The wonderful Jenji scripted this scene, but @whododatlikedat @daniebb3 and I came up with everything else in this moment. There’s “plenty of good room” for us all. Thanks Yaya for sharing this. I love you and miss you fondly from across the pond!

Listening to this I get chills knowing it was just the beginning for these incredible performers. These characters (just like the gorgeous people bringing them to life) would rise up and claim a powerful position in our collective cultural consciousness.
This was the final episode of season one, ep 13, the Christmas pageant “Can’t Fix Crazy” written by none other than Jenji Kohan, Tara Herrmann and directed by Michael Trim.
We’d been making this precious show in our own private paradise. Shooting this last ep of the season we didn’t know if we’d get another season. If we’d get to work again with this group of people we’d fallen in creative love with. It was bitter sweet; making magic and preparing to say goodbye.
It’s 10 years since #OITNB premiered and we’re having a good, old fashioned orange memory haemorrhage!

Congrats again to @acmoore02 on your confirmation hearing as Budget Director for @chicago. It was so great to not only witness it, but to hear all of the positive comments city council members and aldermen had to say about you and how they’re looking forward to your term in office. Such a proud moment for me as your sister. Thanks for letting mom and I attend.
Thank you to all the staff and city employees that I was able to meet yesterday. Chicago holds a special place in my heart for sure (Go U, @northwesternu).
