Amber Anderson Instagram – Anyone who knows me even a tiny bit knows that my cats are like my children. And as any pet parent will understand, my worst night terror came true when on Friday little John went missing. After two days of searching, and an early exit from a best friend’s wedding, we got a call from a neighbour to say that they’d just seen a fox drag his body into their garden. His second birthday was next week. There aren’t really words for how I feel right now. It’s such a unique kind of grief – because the love animals offer us is so unique. I will never forget my weird little man, who couldn’t miaow properly and so would run down the garden literally screaming at us. He was small but a wannabe lion, and ran up to anyone like they were a best friend, including the dreaded foxes. Everything was play, everything something to stalk and his special brand of insanity turned even the greatest cat skeptic into his number one fan. But perhaps he was a bit too brave and not skittish enough. Perhaps in the end, he flew a little too close to the sun. Thank you John for being my friend, thank you for your silliness and for reminding me every day to laugh.
