Yet now, weeks from her 100th birthday, in her absence, I feel speechless.
Every trip home, a gift, to visit with her.
This last one to help her go, home.
The number of people she touched is endless.
A ripple effect of acceptance, kindness and inclusion. Sprinkled with some good ol stubbornness and learning how to stick up for yourself.
Ida taught me that we all deserve to be here.
That we all can help another.
That life is lived better, together.
I used to play a game with my niece when she was young, where we would each claim her:
My Ida. No MY Ida.
But she was everyone’s Ida.
She embodied abundance.
She is Love.
When she met my daughter, she kept saying: we’ve met before, haven’t we.
I have no doubt.
Spider,
You were there the day I was born, and well before that. You helped raise me to be the woman I am today. It’s not like I thought you’d live forever, but I’m still shocked at how much this hurts.
May we all make you smile from beyond by remembering you and the way you made people feel.
May stories of you be told for generations.
May we make you proud.
Thank you for taking care of so many.
Thank you for taking care of me.
Thank you for letting me take care of you.
