Visited my old neighborhood last week. The building is a lot nicer now than when I lived there. 2006 was a vibe. I worked at a coffee shop down the street. Summer was brutal and Sometimes I dated or befriended people just because they had good airconditioning at their apartment and $6 pizza/beer combo was a regular dinner. I painted all the walls and practiced all the dance moves and songs for my first Broadway show up there. My roommate Elisabeth taught me pilates and we would visualize our future selves where she would have a sweet husband and modern dance company and I would be getting up and going to my acting job on tv! I spent a lot of time picking out my MySpace home page song, matching it to my mood, and writing poems and watching dvds on my computer of old sex and the city episodes. It’s easy to get nostalgic, but—-I have central air now. 💕😝🕶️

I took this picture at a pizza place in Nashville which has since been destroyed by a tornado. A selfie stolen in a brief moment of solitude while my then-boyfriend used the restroom. I don’t know why I felt the need to take the picture, but I remembered thinking the blurry picture was special because it captured exactly how I felt in the moment. I felt like I was disappearing. B or C for Effort is being released tonight. The night I wrote this song, I could begin to feel all the cloudy confusing bits of myself and the world around me start to pull a little sharper focus. It felt good. I kept going. Happy to get to share this little bit of my story with you and I hope you enjoy. B or C for Effort, I guess.
