Lea and I went on CNN early this morning to shed some insight on the shocking lack of streaming residual pay from companies that make billions of dollars every year, and why this strike is essential to the future of every creative professional’s future. Sound off y’all and tell your stories. We are in this rickety row boat getting capsized by grotesque yachts together. Also, let it be known that if you have to wake up at 4 in the morning, filling Abby Phillip in on the fight of our lives is the way to do it. #sag #sagaftra #sagaftrastrike #sagaftrastrong #wgastrike #wgastrong #idratherhaveabathtub
It’s fascinating to see who’s placing the blame of these strikes and shutdowns on the workers who are simply and reasonably fighting for their livelihoods and NOT the excessively wealthy studios whose greed, hoarding of revenue, and refusal to compromise their ginormous bonuses is what has led us here. I’ve also been getting questions about why we signed such a bogus contract to begin with and whether or not we should’ve known better. And as always, there is the question of who has it worse in the grand scheme of everything. A lot of people understand that this is about labor protections, but there are many that don’t and/or who are very confused as to why we can’t just bend over, stop whining, and give them their stories. Let these slides highlight some of the reasons. Don’t mind the grammatical typos that I can no longer fix because the edit button is gone and my responses came before coffee. And clear vision. Fight the power. @sagaftra #sagaftra #sagaftastrong #sagaftrastrike

Just so everyone knows, actors (and creatives in general) have not been entitled to ANY share of whatever revenue is generated from people watching our shows on streaming platforms. So all that #1 most watched show with hundreds of millions of streams means absolutely nothing for us financially. Sounds crazy right? To be on a show that was watched the world over and not see anything from those massive release dates? You would be correct in thinking that’s bonkers. Which is why it’s one of the biggest and most important points of our negotiation. And they won’t even entertain it with a counter. It’s almost as if agreeing to give us even .01% would expose just how much money they make from streaming views and we would finally have proof that they have been swindling us for the last 10 years. We cannot waver in this area. Also I’ve had a lot of people asking me about our seasonal salaries so the last slide is for the “you got paid really well upfront tho right?” crowd. @sagaftra #sagaftra #sagaftrastrike #sagaftrastrong #unionstrong

10 years. 10 years since Litchfield busted into the world and invaded our hearts. 10 years since this misfit cast of niche actors corralled in a prison mess hall and buckled up for a very wild ride. 10 years since Lea pointed at me and laughed in hair and makeup while I first got my brown teeth. 10 years since I met so many lifelong friends. 10 years since the game was changed for what stories could be told about women on television. 10 years since streaming became television. 10 years since my soul melted by beautiful performances and beautiful storytelling. 10 years. The work and the love we put in. We all hope we did you proud. @oitnb #oitnb
