Six months ago, I was told that “no one is interested in signing a white woman over 35.” I realized that if all someone saw in me was a “white woman over 35,” they weren’t the right fit for me anyway. Onward and upward! With help from relationships I’ve made for the past 20 years, I immediately found my new homes in @atlasentertainment and @pakulaking. They saw me with fresh eyes and an open mind to all the possibilities of my potential. They encouraged me to think outside the box for the roles I can play and the jobs even within this industry that I can do. Remember: a “no” from someone is really just a “not me.” Find your people. And when someone isn’t giving you the love you know you need to be your best self, don’t stick around for more of the same thing. This is true in friendships, romance, career and more. When I binged @60DaysIn last month, I had no idea I was actually doing research for my next role on @SWATcbs. I started filming yesterday and had a GREAT time under the smart, specific and no BS direction of @zeescott (@brabrabre says hi, btw!) In and out of hair and makeup in less than 10, comfy orange pjs instead of high heels, and lovely coworkers like @jayharrington3 @patrickstesprit & @linaesco to mouth off to while in custody… no complaints here. Shout out to casting goddesses @dawnsg23 #WendyWeidman & #SuzanneYavuz for always looking out for fun roles to stretch my creativity, to @michaelgemballa, #MatthewTBrown & the @SWATwriters, and all the fine folks over @cbstv & @sonytvofficial for continuously employing me for the past decade . Took my 3.5mo old baby to see The Batman today. Tom and I are either the worst parents ever or the coolest. Jury is still out. Thankfully, it was a private screening, hosted by our dear friend and my boss on Wednesdays, @johncampea. And extra thankfully, Baby Degnan was a champ through the entire movie. Loved the parts he was awake for, slept right through the rest. This was an excellent chance for us to use the @new_junior_ baby noise canceling ear protectors that we had on our registry. Thanks Auntie @brabrabre! He loved the movie and so did we! Even though we are trying hard to stick to the “no screens before 2” rule, we believe that movie theaters are sacred spaces, worthy of a little rule bending. 🎥 🍿 #TheBatman

Monumental congratulations to the incomparable @WillSmith on his well deserved Oscar win last night. His career is one of continuous reinvention and this win represents not just his brilliant performance as Richard Williams in @KingRichardFilm, but of his many decades of work as an actor and performer. Even though my role was small and my days on this film were few, I saw in him what makes a star. I learned so much by simply observing him and I am eternally grateful for the work he put in to bring forth a powerful performance from everyone in that little house that day. Congrats Mr Smith. I know she always looks like this, but Joey Bishop is stoned out of her mind in this pic. Sweet baby girl had a fractured molar and an unrelated, chronic, middle-ear infection. We are so incredibly appreciative to Dr Galea and the staff of @SepulvedaAnimalHospital for such thorough, attentive and loving care of our fur-baby. Big thanks to the wonderful folks @K9grillz for alerting us to Joey Bishop’s fracture recently and for introducing us to Sepulveda Animal Hospital. We love K9 Grillz’ affordable and safe non-anesthetic dental cleanings for dogs and cats. The broken part of the tooth was easily removed and she will be on antibiotics for a few weeks for her ear infection, but she is otherwise as healthy as a pup. Regardless of political party, I will not be voting for or supporting any politicians unless they have the sanity to put laws in place that will decrease these shootings. Nowhere in the world does this happen except America. This should be unacceptable to every American. As a someone who grew up around guns in a family of hunters, it makes no sense that people who ARE “responsible gun owners” wouldn’t want legislation to protect themselves, their families and their fellow Americans from these continued atrocities.

However, like many of you who earn our living as performers in television and film, I’ve seen the negative changes in our industry and how they have affected my income, my family and that of my friends and colleagues. Issues such as reduced residuals, caps on health care and pension contributions, reduced wages for a media that is no longer “new,” loopholes that allow productions to put their costs onto the backs of actors and more are on the table. We need to stand in solidarity with our union brothers and sisters #WGA #DGA #IATSE and fight for better, safer working conditions for the entire industry. We need to ensure that this profession remains one in which all performers, not just the top 1%, can earn a living wage. Working in this industry may be a dream for many, but that doesn’t mean it’s a hobby for us. We deserve and demand to be paid fairly for the contributions we, as performers, make to an industry that brings in billions of dollars per year.
