Rachelle Lefevre Instagram – Thank you, @realmichellehurd, for explaining this so beautifully. For those of you who think every actor (and writer!) is incredibly wealthy, please take in this FACT: The minimum amount of money a performer must take home in one year to qualify for health insurance is $26,470. Know how many actors qualify? 12.7% – that’s not a typo- 87.3% OF ACTORS DON’T EVEN QUALIFY FOR BASIC HEALTH INSURANCE. When you think of actors, it’s easy to think of the ultra-famous people you read about who make millions every year but that’s not real life for any actor except that tiny handful of people. Despite being a series regular on multiple shows, I have lost my health insurance twice in my career, and I’m one of the lucky ones who has made a good living and worked steadily. The actors and writers who make the content you love deserve a living wage, health insurance, a share in the profits that don’t exist without them, and a guarantee that their likeness won’t be used for free in perpetuity by AI technology. NOTE: Michelle notes that the “top of show” pay for a guest spot is around 8K and that’s a lot of money until you realize that actors pay their team (agent, manager, lawyer) 20-25% of that right off the top, then pay taxes like everyone else, and most actors are lucky to get 1-3 of those roles a year. Please don’t make assumptions about our business, do your research 🙏🏻🩷 | Posted on 22/Jul/2023 21:14:58
