I was going through some old cassette tapes from my storage unit — even got a little boom box to play them on — when I came across this gem! My mom Alma doing a drop for a (Connecticut) radio station KC101 back in 1990 for “The Nasty Mix with Kelly Nash” show. I don’t know how they ever got my mom to do this drop (though, I vaguely remember hearing about it) but finding it and hearing it after all these years was such a sweet surprise! I’m not sure if she knew. I’m not sure if any of you ever truly know. How much you mean. How much joy you bring. How much you inspire. It’s often said that the smallest gesture from me, or one of my bands mates, means so much. I hope you all know, and I pray that Jenny knew, that it works in reverse too! The smallest little gesture, from you. The tiniest little smile. The thoughtful little gifts. The funniest little joke. The love that you so consistently share with us — means so much, too! It may not seem like it can lift us — but it does! One kind word can be the fuel that inspires. It can spread through me, or my band, and touch the hearts of an arena filled with people. A smile from the front row, can reflect off of me and touch somebody in the very last row. They can then reflect it to everyone in their lives! It is all so magical and it all means so much. While driving home — through the corn fields of Iowa and western Illinois yesterday — I was thinking of writing a post to express the joy that I felt, in seeing you all this weekend, but I didn’t have an image that would match what I was wanting to express. Then I thought, “duh, just scroll IG because you know a Blockhead will post the perfect image (like they usually do) and you can use that”. Thanks @luvinmesomed for this pic — which just about sums it up. Blockheads, it makes me so happy to see your faces — so many familiar ones and (surprisingly) so many new faces too! All of your eyes and smiles reflecting the same joy and love that I feel inside myself when I see you all. Somehow, it just keeps getting better and more meaningful when we get together. Whether on a boat, an arena, a random town or a State Fair — we all leave home and make the journey, unsure of what we are getting into, but trusting in our hearts the entire time. Its been a week since #BlockCon and it’s taken me a week to try to gather my thoughts, and put them into words, but I still haven’t quite figured out where to begin when it comes to describing the magic that I experienced last weekend! So, maybe I’ll start at the beginning. I wasn’t quite sure what I was getting myself into by diving into this convention, since I’d never attended a fan convention — let alone helped organize and produce one! I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have a few sleepless nights (and a lot more uncertainty than I’m used to feeling when in the creative mode), in the lead up to this endeavor. But that uncertainty could never measure up to the levels of excitement that I felt everyday — knowing that we were about to experience something, with our Blockheads, that we’d never experienced before — a new first, if you will — after all these years together! So, despite any angst, I simply continued to trust in the three principles that always guide me when it comes to conceptualizing for our Blockhead Family: 1. If the Blockheads show up, it will all work out! 2. Believe in the magic that always happens when you get together with your bandmates and the greatest fans in the history or music! 3. Whenever you think you’ve reached the limit of what you can give to the Blockheads — GIVE MORE! More songs. More memorabilia. More panels. More selfies. More energy. More effort. More passion. More laughs. More love. I’d say, in the end, we somehow managed to surprise each other again! Our collective energies “crashed” and the magic happened! We somehow managed to make what is old — brand new! We somehow managed to find that joy, that @nkotb and our #Blockhead family always seem to find when we’re together! I’m so thankful to all who attended and helped put it together! To the genius of @jaredaripaul & @wearefaculty! To all the vendors & businesses in Rosemont who welcomed us with open arms! To the moderators & creative team who helped tell the story! To those who worked tirelessly to help create another epic event for Blockheads to celebrate, for years to come! Just had to share this #throwbackthursday reel by @i.love.nkotb, from #BlockCon, again. It’s only one brief moment but this clip captures so much more. I try to stay in the present moment. Not looking forward. Not looking back. Just being present, awake, available and #thankful. IMO — this reel captures what that looks like. Sure, I’m on stage and preforming with my band and it’s always a very happy occasion to be together with my Blockhead Family — so it’s easy to be present and thankful. But the same joy we experience in the best of times can be experienced all the time if we stay present, awake, available and #thankful — for each and every moment that we are blessed to have!
