Today only about 27,000 wild #elephants remain in India – The land of #Lord #Ganesha – the elephant #God.
Being large wandering mammals, elephants are a robust indicators of our free land and freshwater resources.
Elephants are highly efficient seed dispersal agents as new fruiting trees come out of elephant dung.
Elephant herds have traditionally followed the rains across the vast expanses of the Indian subcontinent. So they are ancient harbingers of the monsoons.
Elephants mourn their dead by regularly remembering and visiting places where they have lost a near and dear one.
Elephants are masters of ancient Ayurveda and they are known to be a repository of plant medicinal knowledge passed over generations.
They are similar to us in longevity, memory, intelligence and sensitivity.
Yet we have killed 98% of the free ranging #wild elephant population in the last few decades taking over their land and water resources!
Think over it !
